After working with James Gunn on DC's Peacemaker series for HBO Max, actor Chukwudi Iwuji is reuniting with the acclaimed director on Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy's Vol. 3, and he recently teased his super secret role.

After being delayed due to Disney's decision to fire and then rehire James Gunn as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, production on the film finally began last year. While Vol. 3 will conclude the story arcs of fan favorites like Star-Lord and Gamora, the film will make good on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2's post-credits promise to introduce Adam Warlock to the MCU (Will Poulter).

While very little is known about the role, Iwuji spoke with The Hollywood Reporter, where he teased his mysterious character in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. "Powerful. Extremely powerful. Complex," Iwuji said. "James and I were talking about it, but he’s certainly one of, if not the most complex characters we’ve seen in the freaking Marvel universe. So he’s deeply complex and deeply powerful, and I hope intriguing. I hope I bring that to it."

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 - High evolutionary

While more information regarding the character is sure to surface soon in the coming months, many fans and some reports are speculating that Iwuji could be playing the villain the High Evolutionary. In the comics, the character is an Oxford university student who was expelled for his involvement with genetic manipulation. The character would eventually become a big, threatening villain to the unvierse, and one who has connections to Warlock, the artificial, sort of anti-hero who was created by the Sovereign and is now on a path to destroy the Guardians as revenge.

Whoever Iwuji ends up playing, he will no doubt knock it out of the park with his performance. The actor plays Clemson Murn on Peacemaker, a mercenary and the leader of Project Butterfly who reports directly to Amanda Waller. Iwuji recently spoke about how Gunn approached him to be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, recalling that when Gunn asked to talk to him during the shooting of the dance number for the Peacemaker opening credits scene, he jokingly asked Gunn if he was being replaced by Chiwetel Ejiofor, but instead, Gunn was offering a role for him in his Marvel film.

After a few delays, the Guardians of the Galaxy are finally returning for what is shaping up to be one bonkers cosmic adventure. Gunn's ensemble will also feature returning characters like Chris Pratt as Peter Quill / Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as Groot, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha, and Sean Gunn as Kraglin Obfonteri. Chris Hemsworth's appearance as Thor in Vol. 3 still remains a mystery, as the actor has expressed his interest in joining the film, so fans will just have to wait and see what goes down in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to release in theaters on May 5, 2023.
