Summary

  • A new update for GTA Trilogy adds classic lighting option and fixes bugs, improving the player experience.
  • The update should bring the console versions in the game more in-line with the better-received mobile ports.

Rockstar Games has released a new update for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition that players can download right now. When Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition was first released, it was met with widespread criticism. Fans were not happy about certain art style choices made in the revamped GTA Trilogy, and many others were frustrated with new bugs that did not exist in the original versions of the games.

GTA Trilogy was a failure on consoles and left many franchise fans disappointed. There were those excited to relive the PS2-era GTA games with a fresh coat of paint, and they were burned by the collection. However, GTA Trilogy found new life on mobile. The mobile versions of the games were far better-received than their console counterparts, and now the improvements made to those versions have made their way to consoles.

A player discovers a silly error on a sign in GTA 3 Definitive Edition, and there's a theory on why Grove Street Games might have made it.

A new update is available for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition that adds a classic lighting option and fixes many of the lingering bugs that have been plaguing the games. Rockstar had already released GTA Trilogy updates addressing some of the problems with the games, but this latest one seems to be the biggest step forward to date. After downloading the new update, fans should have a much smoother experience when playing GTA Trilogy, though there may still be those that prefer the originals.

While this update will no doubt be appreciated by Grand Theft Auto fans, there may still be those disappointed that Rockstar delisted the original games. When Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition was first released in 2021, the controversial decision was made to pull the original versions of the games from digital storefronts, though they were eventually re-released on PC. These originals still have value, and it's safe to say that there are many fans who would like to see them return on all platforms at some point down the line.

The latest update for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition gives GTA fans a good excuse to return to the PS2-era trilogy while they wait for Grand Theft Auto 6. Grand Theft Auto 6 is aiming for a fall 2025 release window, and so fans have about a year left to wait before they can get their hands on the game. Hopefully revisiting the classics and the new GTA Online content is enough to keep fans satisfied in the meantime.
