Rockstar's monthly Grand Theft Auto subscription service GTA+ is reportedly launching on the Nintendo Switch in the near future, according to new language used by the developer on the service's website. The rumored launch of GTA+ on Nintendo Switch has several implications, most notably indicating Rockstar intends to expand its Grand Theft Auto brand and subscription service to more platforms.
GTA+ marked a new era for Rockstar and its world-renowned Grand Theft Auto franchise. Similar to how Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus work, GTA+ grants subscribers access to a rotating assortment of Rockstar titles. In addition, GTA+ subscribers are given cash, cars, and other items in GTA Online. Originally launching as Grand Theft Auto 5's online component, GTA Online quickly became one of the most popular multiplayer experiences on the market, and as such, brings in millions upon millions of dollars every year for Rockstar. While Grand Theft Auto 5 was never officially released on the Nintendo Switch, other popular Rockstar titles have been brought to the console, with GTA+ seemingly set to launch soon.
New GTA Online Update Includes an Item Seen in GTA 6 Trailer
GTA Online's newest update includes a surprising reference to Rockstar's highly-anticipated upcoming entry in the Grand Theft Auto series.
As noticed by Twitter user Tez2, Rockstar Games recently updated the platform list for "Games Included with GTA+" to now include the Nintendo Switch. Other Rockstar games like Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy, and LA Noire all received ports to the Nintendo Switch, but the popular handheld console is noticeably missing Grand Theft Auto 5. It's assumed the Switch is not powerful enough to run the game, though modders recently got Grand Theft Auto 5 working on the console. This means that if GTA+ is eventually brought to Switch, subscribers will not receive the GTA Online benefits.
GTA+ Reportedly Launching On Nintendo Switch
Rockstar raised the price of GTA+ by $2 earlier this year, with the price of a GTA+ subscription now costing $7.99 a month. GTA+ launched back in 2022 and has been updated and modified in a variety of ways in the years since. The subscription service also includes other Rockstar games like GTA: Chinatown Wars and GTA: Liberty City Stories., though it's unclear what GTA+ will look like when Grand Theft Auto 6 finally releases.
Rockstar officially unveiled its next GTA game late last year, with the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer recently reaching 200 million views on YouTube, indicating its release may be one of the biggest moments in gaming history. Excitement for the next GTA game has been building ever since Grand Theft Auto 5 was released in 2013, with many players curious about where Rockstar may take its Grand Theft Auto franchise for the next installment. Set in Vice City, Rockstar's take on Miami, Florida, Grand Theft Auto 6 is rumored to be the most feature-rich and immersive experience yet.
