Grand Theft Auto Online has been around for multiple console generations and large scale updates. The basics have remained mostly the same as you take part in big heists in multiplayer form. It's always important to manage your health and armor in some of these longer missions. You and your crew have a limited number of lives to complete each section of a heist.
Armor can be the difference and help you survive an accidental explosion from a rocket launcher. You should always be stocked up on armor before missions, but you can equip it during a firefight as well. Armor can also be a part of your crew's aesthetic and equipped for purely cosmetic purposes. Continue reading this guide to learn more about equipping and purchasing armor in Grand Theft Auto Online.
Grand Theft Auto 6’s Online Mode Should Do Something GTA 5 Stayed Away From
Grand Theft Auto 6's inevitable online mode has a lot to live up to, but it can surpass expectations by introducing a feature never seen in GTA 5.
How to Buy Armor
You can purchase armor at any Ammunation gun store in Los Santos. Walk up to the armor display on the counter to the left in the store. Press right on the D-Pad to browse the selection. There are five different types of armor you can buy. Each one will fill up the blue armor meter in the bottom left corner of the HUD to varying degrees.
- Super Light Armor - Fills 20% of the armor meter
- Light Armor - Fills 40% of the armor meter
- Standard Armor - Fills 60% of the armor Meter
- Heavy Armor - Fills 80% of the armor meter
- Super Heavy Armor - Fills 100% of the armor meter
You can only carry 10 armor vests at once, so spend your money wisely to remain stocked up. Armor can also be purchased from the Agency Armory if the player owns one. The Gun Van will carry armor at cheaper prices.
How to Equip Armor
The Criminal Enterprises update made it easier than ever to quickly replenish armor. Hold L1/LB to open the weapon wheel. Then press in the right stick to use a set of armor from your inventory. Repeat until your armor meter is full.
If there is a break in the action, you can hold the left side of the PS5 Touchpad or the Xbox View button. This will open the player interaction menu where you can manage your character. Press on health and armor to access your inventory. Here you can click on the specific armor you want to equip. You can use the equip armor option to make it so your character is actually wearing the armor on their clothing. Setting auto equip armor to on will make sure your character wears the last purchased armor by default.
