The Grand Theft Auto series is full of open worlds to explore and missions to complete. As such, there is a lot a player needs to do to finish the game. Completing the story mode in each GTA game will give players a challenge, but only by getting all the trophies in the game can they achieve the platinum.

For a while, the only GTA games that offered the chance to receive a platinum trophy were GTA 4 and 5. However, the release of the definitive PS2 trilogy has given players the chance to earn 100% completion on more games in the series. Players should be warned, though, as some of the platinum trophies are easier to get than others.

To achieve the platinum trophy, players must also obtain gang territories, max out stats, and export all thirty cars in the game. These acts are time-consuming, but they are far from difficult. There are also trophies for getting busted fifty times and killing four thousand NPCs, but players will most likely achieve these naturally while having fun in the free-play mode.

GTA: Vice City is another game in the series that has a fairly easy story mode to complete for the 100% trophy. However, some of the missions in the game require the player to earn enough money to purchase specific businesses throughout the map. Only by buying these buildings and completing the objectives within can players unlock the final two missions in the game.

Outside the story, there are also one hundred hidden packages around the city to find and some optional side missions. These include vehicle missions, stunt challenges, and rampage missions, some of which feature some of the hardest challenges in the game. GTA: Vice City is a bit of a challenge to platinum, but anyone with enough patience will do it with little problem.

3 Grand Theft Auto 3

The third installment in the GTA series was the first in the crime franchise to take place in a fully 3D open world. As such, the game may feel a bit small compared to today's standards. However, it is by no means any easier to get the platinum trophy here. The first thing most players do to get 100% percent in this game is finish the story missions. Then, they will go on to complete the extra objectives.

However, there are five missions in the campaign that are easy to miss. The player must complete all five of these missions to get the platinum. If they finish the story without them, it will mean having to restart the game and redo everything just to backtrack and find them. Once these missions have been finished, there are several vehicle missions to do and seventeen further payphone missions. After all that, players must also spend time finding and exporting various vehicles.

2 Grand Theft Auto: 5

Grand Theft Auto 5 may feature a large map, but fully finding everything it has for the platinum trophy isn't as hard as fans may think. The open world is so fun and inviting that most players will find every area on the map naturally and will unlock the Sightseer trophy by doing so. The most time-consuming part of this challenge is the fact that players also have to complete the story mode three times to get each alternate ending for all three of those trophies.

The other aspect of GTA 5 that makes getting the platinum trophy difficult is that there are also trophies that can be unlocked by completing objectives in the online version of the game. This may involve killing a certain number of other players or winning a specific number of races; however, a player cannot get the platinum trophy in Grand Theft Auto 5 without playing both parts of the game.

1 Grand Theft Auto 4

Having Friends Makes Things Challenging

One of the best features in Grand Theft Auto 4 is the friends feature. Throughout the game, Niko will encounter and befriend several characters in the city. Players can use their phone to call and hang out with these people at any time and do various activities across the open world with them. Sadly, players must meet and interact with all of these characters in specific ways to finally get the Liberty City (5) trophy. On top of that, players must also complete every activity in the city with these NPCs and get a high score in some activities like bowling and darts.

If that wasn't enough, there are also trophies for completing the game's main story, exporting cars, and doing the standard vehicle missions. Since this GTA game also features an online version, there are also trophies to find there, too. If players manage to do all this, then they can successfully say that they have platinumed the hardest game in the GTA series.
