Gray Zone Warfare puts players in the boots of a PMC operator in the fictional island country of Lamang, where they have to fight against local guerilla fighters and rival corporations. Like many other extraction shooters, progression here is mainly tied with the game's NPC vendors, who provide tasks for players to complete.

One such task is First Recon, one of the initial quests given by Handshake. It's not as difficult as some other tasks in Gray Zone Warfare, but it can be a little confusing, especially to players who are new to this genre. Here's what you need to do to complete this quest.

Gray Zone Warfare: First Recon Guide

The area of operation for this task will vary depending on which faction you choose to join. However, the objectives and the way they're meant to be accomplished remain the same.

The quest system in Gray Zone Warfare is affected by the faction you join. The different organizations each have bases set in different parts of the map, and First Recon is designed to get people acquainted with them.

Your job here is to visit a gas station, a convenience store, and a demolished building. Handshake will give you the grid coordinates for each of these locations — to check if you're in the general vicinity of one POI, open your map and hover your cursor over the grid square you are currently on.

To leave your base, either walk out the front gates or call in a helicopter by opening your map and clicking on one of the available landing zones near the neighboring town. Once you land, find and approach the POIs within their designated grid squares. The maps above show the exact locations of each POI for every faction.

After tagging all three locations, you can exfil back to base by opening your map and clicking on your faction base's icon. This will call a helicopter to the landing zone that's closest to your position. Make your way to the LZ, and wait for the chopper to land. Once you're back home, open the Tasks tab in the Vendor menu to claim your rewards.

Since this is a recon mission, you won't have to do any fighting to finish it. You'll still encounter enemies along the way, but if you don't want to lose your guns and gear in GZW, you can always continue this task without bringing anything.
