Rockstar Games reveals the Gun Van for Grand Theft Auto Online, a transitory merchant that players have to find with a weekly rotating roster of powerful weapons for sale. Online titles, especially those who utilize live service methods, continue to strive to keep players logging in day after day through continual updates and new content. Some online games like Fortnite and Apex Legends do this by introducing new characters or skins, while others continue to evolve the world players find themselves in. For loot based games like Destiny 2 and its predecessor, Bungie introduced a mysterious merchant named Xur who would only appear on weekends. While the character would sell a randomly rotating set of exotics, players would have to discover his location in the game's world in a set number of places. While the hunt for Xur has expanded over the seasons thanks to new content on offer including rotating sets of legendary gear in addition to the exotics, Rockstar is now following suit for Grand Theft Auto Online by offering a new weekly merchant for players to find. Over on Twitter, Rockstar Games announced the addition of the Gun Van into Grand Theft Auto Online. The Vapid Speedo offers players a weekly rotating inventory of powerful weapons, ammunition, and armor for sale, though players will first need to find the constantly moving merchant inside the massive map of Los Santos. To help differentiate it from the more static locations of Ammu-Nation, Gun Van sells its wares at a discounted rate and with no rank requirements.
To entice GTA Online players to locate the Gun Van, the merchant is selling the elusive Railgun as well as a 45% discount on the Compact EMP Launcher. Other weapons on sale this week are the Combat Shotgun, Assault Shotgun, RPG, Knife, Baseball Bat, Molotov Cocktails, Proximity Mines, and grenades. GTA+ Members are getting a bigger discount including 50% off the combat shotgun. On top of that, GTA+ members also get access to exclusive weapon tints and finishes to further show off their status.
In fact, this isn't the first time that Rockstar Games has introduced a unique vendor into their online worlds. Red Dead Redemption 2's online service features a mysterious vendor known as Madam Nazar, who players will interact with as they progress through the story and daily quests. However, the fortune-teller roams the huge map, so players will need to hunt her down on a daily basis to see what rare and exotic items she's selling.
GTA Online is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
