A trusted insider with a proven track record has claimed that Rockstar may be delaying the physical release of Grand Theft Auto 6 to avoid spoilers leaking online. Rockstar has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, but has made no indication whether it will be a digital-only launch. If recent rumors are to be believed, a physical edition of one of gaming's biggest ever releases might not arrive until early 2027.

As undoubtedly one of the biggest releases in video game history, it's no surprise that Rockstar may want to avoid any major spoilers at release. Unfortunately, there have already been numerous leaks during Grand Theft Auto 6's development. The first of which came all the way back in 2022, when a hacker gained unauthorized access to over 90 different videos of the next Grand Theft Auto game, which were then promptly posted online. The gameplay shown in the footage was clearly still in its early stages of development, but it gave fans their first look at the highly anticipated title. Rockstar acknowledged the unfortunate leaks before giving players an official look with Trailer 1 in December 2023.

Fans of Rockstar Games' crime epic series still have to wait 10 months for Grand Theft Auto 6, but they can check out GTA: Carcer City soon.

Rockstar Reportedly Skipping Physical GTA 6 Version at Launch

The latest rumor to make waves online suggests that Rockstar is skipping a physical release for Grand Theft Auto 6 in order to avoid any major spoilers, as fans will often find ways to get their hands on physical copies of anticipated titles before their official release date. According to Polish outlet PPE.pl, which has a trusted source known as Graczdari, who has accurately leaked the PS5 port of Microsoft Flight Simulator, the release date for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on Nintendo Switch 2, and more, Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two Interactive, still has no plans for a physical version of Grand Theft Auto 6.

Graczdari, who reportedly sells physical releases of video games in Europe, informed the outlet that they have received information that the physical version of the title may not be released simultaneously in order to prevent leaks. The outlet says their source suggests a physical release may arrive 3-4 weeks after Grand Theft Auto 6's current November 19 release date, but some are even claiming that it could be pushed back into the beginning of 2027. Although it seems possible that Rockstar and Take-Two would, naturally, want to avoid spoilers for Grand Theft Auto 6, this information should be taken with a pinch of salt until an official source comments on the matter.

Assuming there are no further delays to Grand Theft Auto 6, more news on the title could arrive as early as February. At least, that's what some fans believe. Take-Two Interactive is once again set to host its quarterly earnings call on February 3, and the company has been known to comment on Grand Theft Auto 6 during the call. Although it's not deadset, Rockstar Games has also been known to release new trailers or information about its titles prior to these calls as a way to bump up excitement for shareholders. With marketing for the title likely to begin in the next few months, it's possible that Take-Two may, at the bare minimum, comment on the development of GTA 6 during the call.

While new rumors suggest Grand Theft Auto 6 won't have a physical release on day one, a separate source also recently claimed that the title will, somehow, be coming to Nintendo Switch 2. Many fans have been calling on Rockstar and Take-Two to release the title on PC the same day as PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but it looks like the studios may have other plans, as it has been claimed that a Switch 2 version of Grand Theft Auto 6 is already being tested. However, given the device's hardware limitations, many doubt the validity of this rumor.
