Despite how much of it had supposedly leaked before official piecemeal marketing began, Grand Theft Auto 6 remains a big question mark concerning almost everything regarding its story or gameplay. Rumors, leaks, and speculative theories are rampant, of course, but players would be wise to wait until Rockstar doles out actual confirmation with present-day gameplay or story details before they leap to the most ludicrous and exorbitant conclusions—that’s impossible, perhaps, seeing as how biblical of a video game Grand Theft Auto 6 will be, if Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are any sign.
Only a handful of puzzle pieces have been provided by Rockstar thus far, and it’s difficult to tell how Grand Theft Auto 6’s story will assemble those pieces into a larger portrait. However, one prevailing hypothesis suggests Grand Theft Auto 6 is poorly hiding that Jason is an undercover cop, and that could be either a blessing or a curse, depending on how it’s handled. On the one hand, Jason being a cop could allow for dynamic gameplay. But, on the other hand, folding so early and telling players that Jason is a cop could ruin any tension or suspense such a reveal might otherwise wield.
Grand Theft Auto 6’s Jason Being a Cop Could Be a Win-Lose Scenario
If GTA 6’s Jason is a Cop, Gameplay is Obligated to Include Police Activities
Entertaining the not-so-wild theory on many eager Grand Theft Auto enthusiasts’ minds that Jason is secretly a police officer, it could be incredibly thrilling to have half of Grand Theft Auto 6 dedicated to gameplay where the male protagonist almost exclusively attempts to thwart crime, not commit it. It might be odd if Jason was strictly performing pseudo-heroic acts as a cop, especially in an action-adventure franchise that has earned its monumental status for facilitating a tremendous amount of player freedom.
But, having two playable protagonists with such conflicting roles, unbeknownst to one another or not, could be a huge boon for Grand Theft Auto 6’s gameplay. Indeed, two playable protagonists being so distinct in gameplay could easily clash within the context of the story.
For example, having Jason-exclusive missions where players respond to dispatch calls or engage in drug busts for Grand Theft Auto 6’s police department would be a phenomenal juxtaposition to Lucia-exclusive missions where players rob convenience stores and other establishments.
If GTA 6’s Jason is a Cop, Gameplay Will Surely Spoil That Somehow
Unfortunately, Jason being a cop with related police officer missions would likely be something Grand Theft Auto 6 reveals early. As a result, it could undercut all the thrill that such a twist could offer.
For instance, Jason’s gameplay and missions could technically be identical to what Lucia’s are, with players left completely in the dark about his undercover cop activities until the story wishes to make that reveal known, but it could be tremendously tricky to execute that fluidly when players likely have endless opportunities to play as Jason, realistically leaving no feasible time for him to be whisked away on clandestine police duties. That said, immediately revealing that Jason is a cop could understandably make that revelation, from Lucia’s perspective, Grand Theft Auto 6’s main plot twist.
Folding so early and telling players that Jason is a cop could ruin any tension or suspense such a reveal might otherwise wield.
From then on, players would be waiting for the moment Lucia learns he’s a cop and what that aftermath could entail, leading to a bias from the player toward whichever character they prefer to play as. Either way, whether Jason is a cop or not will heavily influence the overarching narrative, as well as what gameplay may look like for both of Grand Theft Auto 6’s playable protagonists.
