The Grand Theft Auto franchise has never been afraid to touch on dark and serious subjects, but satire has always been a key part of its identity. Many of the businesses, places, and characters featured in the games are direct parodies of things in real life. The franchise's fake radio stations, meanwhile, are filled with absurd advertisements, and they're run by celebrity radio hosts who usually have very farcical personalities. As great as this all is, though, the recent Grand Theft Auto installments have taken this element of the series to the next level with the inclusion of a major feature: the internet.

In Grand Theft Auto 4, Rockstar Games introduced an in-game web browser that allowed players to access a whole host of fictional websites, ranging from a website centered around didgeridoos to another one that serves as a tourist's guide to Liberty City. While players can sometimes purchase items or initiate quests online, the internet doesn't really have a major purpose gameplay-wise, but it is amusing to look through, and it makes the game's world feel more alive. A more fleshed-out version of the internet was featured in Grand Theft Auto 5 and Grand Theft Auto Online, and perhaps unsurprisingly, it will seemingly return in Grand Theft Auto 6, as well.

Satirical Websites Are Seemingly Going to Make a Return in GTA 6

Tez2, an insider who's knowledgeable about all things Rockstar, recentl y revealed some website domains that were registered under Take-Two's nameservers in a post he made o n the GTAForums website. According to him, these domains are likely in-game websites in GTA 6, and they may redirect to Rockstar's official GTA 6 page when entered into a real-world web browser, as was the case with GTA 4 and 5. Some of the domains listed in this leak sound a lot like parodies of real-world websites, while others seem to be innuendos or plays on words.

One of the domains that Tez2 has highlighted, what-up.app, appears to be a knock-off of Facebook's social media service, WhatsApp. Brianandbradley.com, on the other hand, sounds like a parody of the Morgan and Morgan law firm that's located in Florida, which GTA 6's Leonida is directly inspired by. Other domains, like buckme.app and wipeoutcornskin.com, could also be the names of a cash app website and a skin care product provider, respectively. Unlike the previously mentioned sites, these two don't seem to be based on any real-world businesses or products.

  • what-up.app (a potential parody of WhatsApp)
  • rydeme.app (a potential parody of Uber)
  • buckme.app (a potential cash app service)
  • leonidagov.org (self-explanatory name)
  • brianandbradley.com (a potential parody of Morgan and Morgan)
  • hookers-galore.com (could either be a site for an escort service or a fishing retail chain)
  • wipeoutcornskin.com (could be a site for a skin care product provider)
  • myboyhasacreepycorndog.com (could be a parody of a parenting blog or a creepypasta)

In Spite of Initial Concerns, This GTA 6 Leak Shows that Rockstar Hasn't Lost Its Sense of Humor

Before and after GTA 6's initial announcement, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reported that Rockstar was aiming to be "less crude" in its portrayal of marginalized people in the game, and that it wanted to "clean up" its image as a company. Because of this, a lot of people expressed concerns that the social commentary in GTA 6 wouldn’t be as biting as in previous entries. This, along with the fact that GTA co-creator Dan Hauser left Rockstar Games in 2020, fueled existing worries about the quality of the game’s writing.

Two of the creative minds behind the GTA franchise, Lazlow Jones and Leslie Benzies, also left Rockstar in 2020 and 2016, respectively.

Despite many people's initial beliefs to the contrary, though, the leaked domains for GTA 6 suggest that the game will indeed retain the series' trademark satire. What's more, the sites listed here are almost certainly just a fraction of the ones that will be featured in GTA 6. Given that Rockstar Games has already confirmed that social media will have a presence in the game in some capacity, it's possible that GTA 6 will have the most in-depth internet system in the series yet. It seems likely, then, that browsing the web in the game will be just as entertaining as it was in the other GTA entries, if not more so.
