Grand Theft Auto 5 players believe a new update for GTA Online has teased Lester's return in the series' next installment, which is currently set to release in Fall 2025. On December 10, GTA Online developer and publisher Rockstar Games released a brand-new content update filled with new missions, vehicles, and features, but a surprise in-game message from Lester has led fans to believe that the popular Grand Theft Auto 5 character has moved to Vice City.

After 10 years of Grand Theft Auto 5 and Online, Rockstar Games finally released the first official trailer for the series' next installment, Grand Theft Auto 6, in December 2023. Unfortunately, it has now been over a year since the monumental trailer was released and fans are still waiting for an update or second trailer from the developer. Rockstar Games' parent company Take-Two Interactive has reaffirmed to fans that Grand Theft Auto 6 is still set for Fall 2025, but the community is growing more concerned with each passing day as Rockstar remains silent on the highly anticipated title.

Grand Theft Auto Fans Think Lester Will Return in GTA 6

With details surrounding the next Grand Theft Auto game being sparse, there have been many wild theories about GTA 6, but the latest one seems to be somewhat logical. As many fans will be well aware, Grand Theft Auto 6 will be set in the fictional state of Leondia, home to the famous Vice City, which could now be the home of GTA 5's Lester Crest. There's no confirmation, but a new update for GTA Online includes a message from Lester that discusses his retirement with "a bottomless margarita in one hand and a receipt of sale for the old factory in the other," which has led fans to speculate that the character has moved to Vice City to enjoy his retirement, just in time for Grand Theft Auto 6.

Reddit user DawsonPoe posted the theory to the GTA 6 subreddit, saying that they "think it would be cool" for Lester to have a cameo in the next game. Others, such as OversziedWalrus1867, speculated that Rockstar could be setting up a story for Grand Theft Auto 6's online mode where Lester moves to Vice City and players "get him back into the game." Although this is all merely speculation, it wouldn't be much of a surprise to see one of Grand Theft Auto 5's characters return in the next game. Grand Theft Auto 4's Johnny Klebitz was one of Trevor's many victims in Grand Theft Auto 5, which has also caused concern among some fans that characters such as Michael, Trevor, or Franklin may have similar fates in Grand Theft Auto 6.

Fans have another year left to go until Grand Theft Auto 6's release, which means Lester's future will likely remain a mystery until then. In the meantime, Rockstar has just released a new update for GTA Online, adding a new business for players to purchase, a variety of new vehicles, new features for the popular Terrorbyte vehicle, and much more. The patch is available for free on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
