Grand Theft Auto 5 has continued to entertain, with its expansive and detailed map still surprising players over a decade later. GTA 5 has been hailed as one of the biggest games of all time, and as its highly-anticipated predecessor, GTA 6, lurks in the distance, the former's time in the spotlight is coming to a close.
Before GTA 6 arrives, there is still time for fans to explore every corner of Los Santos in GTA 5. Over the years, Rockstar has become well-known for crafting highly detailed open-world games. Between the GTA and Red Dead Redemption franchises, players can spend hours with each entry and still miss some compelling encounters, and GTA 5 is a great example of just how many run-ins can be overlooked.
GTA 6 On the Switch 2 May Not Be Pipe Dream After All
A modern Grand Theft Auto game on Nintendo hardware has seemed unrealistic for a while, though GTA 6 on the Switch 2 is not an impossibility.
GTA 5 is Filled With Surprising NPCs That Many Players Can Easily Miss
Bigfoot and the Ghost of Mount Gordo
GTA 5 loves sprinkling random doses of the paranormal into its world. Within the story, players can spot Bigfoot during "Predator". However, another sighting can be unlocked after getting 100%. A mission titled "The Last One" will be unlocked for Franklin, leading him to help a Bigfoot hunter search for the legendary cryptid. Another notorious NPC that can be found is the Ghost of Mount Gordo. Staying on theme with paranormal encounters, this apparition can be seen at Mount Gordo around midnight and has become one of the most notable secrets in the game. The GTA franchise is filled with interesting NPCs, and these two are just the tip of the iceberg.
The Frozen Alien
- In the game's prologue, a frozen alien can be found in a nearby lake.
This particular NPC might be one of the easiest to miss. Since the prologue involves a stand-off with the police, not many players are willing to search the area for hidden clues. However, if players go to the bridge that hangs over the frozen water, a terrifying surprise can be seen in the form of a frozen alien. GTA 5 teases aliens throughout the game with rare UFO encounters, and this full-blown alien corpse at the very start of the story is a big shock for those who choose to explore during this mission.
All but one UFO sighting in GTA 5 can only be seen after getting 100%.
Escaping the Altruist Cult
The Altruists are a cult made up of old men who have a deep hatred of the younger generations and technology. When playing as Trevor, players can deliver NPCs to the cult in exhange for money. Once four people are brought to the cult for sacrifice, a rare event is triggered where the Altruists kidnap Trevor as well. Players have to fight their way out of their camp, killing the members in a heart-pounding showdown.
Four briefcases can be found around the camp during the shootout that each contain $25,000.
GTA 4's Patrick McReary
- Patrick "Packie" McReary is one of GTA 4's central supporting characters.
For longtime GTA fans, GTA 5's random event, Getaway Driver, is an exciting throwback, as it marks the brief return of Packie. As one of Niko Bellic's biggest allies in GTA 4, getting a few moments to heist with Packie is a real thrill that adds a fun dose of nostalgia to the game.
Packie has also appeared in GTA Online.
Mob Heiress Antonia Bottino
While this NPC is quite rare, it's one worth searching for because of its monetary rewards. North of Paleto Bay, players may come across two men burying a woman alive. After rescuing her, it's revealed that she's Antonia Bottino, the missing daughter of a mob boss. If players return her to Vinewood Hills, a jaw-dropping $60,000 reward will be given for the effort.
