Digital storefront GOG is giving away a free copy of The Brotherhood’s sci-fi horror game Stasis, just in time for Halloween. Eagle-eyed gamers on the lookout for a good deal can usually find one at any given moment, as Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store all regularly discount titles to the tantalizing price of $0.00. These giveaways usually happen all year round, but during the holidays, they tend to be themed to the season.
In 2015, The Brotherhood developed and published Stasis, an isometric point-and-click adventure game with decidedly disquieting vibes and story. John Maracheck and his family are put into cryogenic sleep for their long journey to Titan. Unfortunately, John awakens to find that things onboard the Groomlake have not gone according to plan. Stasis was a sleeper hit right out of the gate, with its setting and ambience - inspired by the Alien franchise, Event Horizon, and Dead Space - drawing players in.

GOG Is Giving Away Sci-Fi Horror Game Stasis
Just in time for Halloween, GOG has announced that it is giving away a copy of Stasis for free through November 3. Those who wish to claim it need a GOG account, and they can then just click the link to add the game to their library. Those who prefer to play their games on Steam can also currently grab Stasis on that platform at a 60 percent discount. The horror adventure game has a 78 average critic rating on OpenCritic and 3.9 user rating on GOG, with players praising Stasis' creepy atmosphere and beautiful graphics. Some people do warn, however, that it feels fairly old school, given that it was released in 2015.
Gamers who may have already played Stasis recently but are looking for a good sci-fi horror game for the season have plenty of other options to choose from, though they won’t necessarily be free. In 2017, Stasis received a free prequel called Cayne, which can be completed in about three hours and again features a protagonist who wakes up to find that the world around her has gone awry. The game’s 2023 sequel, Stasis: Bone Totem, is currently available at a 60 percent discount on both GOG and Steam. It introduces an entirely new story and characters, plunging players into an unsettling underwater environment.
GOG isn’t the only platform that is giving away an atmospheric horror game to enjoy over the Halloween weekend. The early access version of REPO is currently free to play on Steam through November 3, giving players the chance to jump into some physics-based co-op mayhem and terrifying environments.
