Summary

  • Amazon has already ordered two seasons of the God of War series, showing confidence in the project's future.
  • The series has a new showrunner, Ronald Moore, who is optimistic about the adaptation's direction.
  • Although details on the show are scarce, the early order of two seasons signals a promising start for the God of War adaptation.

Due to the massive success of shows like HBO's The Last of Us, Fallout, and Arcane, the future of gaming adaptations is constantly looking brighter each passing year. But one particular franchise that has Norse-loving fans excited about and that's the new God of War series set to launch on Amazon Prime Video. Even though the first season hasn't even aired yet, Amazon is seemingly putting a lot of trust in the series when it comes to how many seasons it will get.

Announced in late 2022, the planned adaptation of God Of War looked like it could have been on shaky ground when several scripts for the first season were written before Sony and Amazon decided to move in a different creative direction. Thankfully, soon after this, the series found its new showrunner in Star Trek creator Ronald Moore, to the relief of the game's huge fandom, who wanted nothing more than to see the epic Sony Santa Monica adventure brought to the small screen. Now, it looks like the adaptation, which was initially created by David Jaffe, is heading in the right direction as Moore gives a very positive update regarding the future of the Amazon Prime series.

God of War TV Show Writer Reveals Amazon Has Already Ordered Two Seasons

God of War Ragnarok Kratos Shield

Speaking on The Sackhoff Show with Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff, Ronald Moore discussed his current workload, and towards the end of the conversation, Moore discussed what was going on with the God of War adaptation series. Moore revealed that Amazon has already picked up God of War for two seasons on Prime Video and that he was currently in the writer's room working on it. "Right now I'm working on an adaptation of this video game called God of War. It's a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of, and they asked me to come in," Moore continued. "I'm literally in the writer's room and working on that. That's my new thing."

Moore also expressed that even though he'll "have a stab" at playing the God of War games, he's not a gamer due to growing up in the arcade era of the 1980s and can only really "bang on buttons." Moore joked that he has issues with the controllers of today and isn't too sure about what button does what, leaving him usually dying in the game because he takes so long to figure it all out. "The controllers now… Press R1, which one's R1, oh I'm dead! I can't quite get a hold of that," Moore laughs.

Because Amazon has now ordered two seasons of the show this early in its development, it seems to showcase how much trust the company has now with its new team. Although it's not clear yet if the series will go down the same route as The Last of Us TV series with multiple seasons, it certainly looks like a great start for the God of War adaptation thus far. Currently, nothing else is known about Amazon's God of War TV series as yet, but fingers crossed that we'll hear about casting announcements and even more updates soon.
