There's been no official confirmation that a new God of War game is in development, but it's only a matter of time. God of War has been a flagship Sony first-party franchise for 20 years now, with entries releasing on the last four generations of PlayStation consoles. So, it seems inevitable that another God of War entry is on the horizon.
Some recent rumors have claimed that the next God of War could finally be taking fans to Ancient Egypt, while other recent leaks suggest the next entry in the franchise could be a Greek Saga spinoff story. But no matter where the next God of War saga takes fans, there are a handful of franchise characters who are likely to rear their heads once again.
Why Does God of War Ragnarok's New Dark Odyssey Skin Look Familiar?
God of War Ragnarok's Dark Odyssey skin is a nostalgic callback to a previous game, symbolizing Kratos’ past and how he continues to reckon with it.
Characters That Are Likely to Return in The Next God of War
Kratos
The eponymous God of War himself, Kratos is the face of the franchise, and no matter where the next saga takes place, he's bound to appear in one way or another. If the next entry in the God of War series is another mainline installment, then Kratos will likely take center stage once again. And if the next God of War is the long-rumored Atreus-led spinoff, then it would make sense for Kratos to still appear at some point during the game, even if it's only for a brief interaction.
Atreus
Though Atreus isn't the franchise's namesake, he's become the co-lead of the God of War series, and it would undoubtedly feel a little strange if he didn't appear in some capacity in the next entry. Even if the next God of War takes place in an entirely new mythology, fans would still expect Atreus to show up in some form.
Mimir
The severed head of the "Smartest Man Alive," Mimir has become a key part of God of War's modern identity. Mimir's near-constant dialogue isn't just a great expository tool for the series' dense mythology and lore, it's also a great way to give the ever-stoic Kratos more opportunities to display his personality. It seems likely Mimir will accompany Kratos on whatever his next adventure may be.
Sindri
Sindri had a pretty rough time in God of War Ragnarok. The man everyone thought was Tyr turned out to be Odin in disguise, who proceeded to kill the other half of the dwarven blacksmith duo, Brok. Sindri blames Kratos and Atreus for his brother's death and, though he helps them claim victory during Ragnarok, he still resents the God of War and his son. It's possible that Sindri will show up in the next God of War, likely attempting to take revenge on Kratos or Atreus.
Thrud
God of War Ragnarok's post-game sees Thor's daughter, Thrud, finding her deceased father's hammer. After picking up Mjolnir, Thrud rockets into the sky. During God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla, it's revealed that Thrud has been recruited as one of the Valkyries' Shield-Maidens, a role that could pave the way for a future cameo.
Tyr
It's already well established in God of War Ragnarok that Tyr has traveled across the world and visited a plethora of different civilizations. If the next God of War sees Kratos carving his way through a new pantheon of gods, then it would make sense for Tyr to follow him to a new realm.
