Summary
- The God of War Ragnarok PC port is being review bombed on Steam.
- The negative reviews mainly focus on the game's PlayStation account requirement.
- Ragnarok was the target of a review bombing effort back in 2022 as well.
The newly-released God of War Ragnarok PC port is being review bombed. God of War Ragnarok was PlayStation's heavy-hitter for 2022, releasing as a cross-gen title for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. PlayStation gamers have had the chance to experience Kratos' latest adventure for two years, but now a whole new audience can see what all the fuss is about.
God of War Ragnarok earned rave reviews at the time of its release, with many hailing it as one of the best video games ever made. Combine this with the fact that the 2018 God of War was a big hit on PC, and it's no surprise that many fans on the platform have been anxiously awaiting the sequel. Unfortunately, God of War Ragnarok's PC release has not gone as smoothly as Sony may have hoped.
God of War Ragnarok PC Setting Lets Players Turn Off 'Intrusive' PS5 Feature
God of War Ragnarok allows PC users to turn down an "intrusive" feature that drew a lot of complaints from PS4 and PS5 players.
While I can personally attest to God of War Ragnarok on PC running like a dream and delivering a top-of-the-line experience, the game is still finding itself at the center of controversy. Disgruntled PC gamers have blasted God of War Ragnarok's Steam page with negative reviews, bringing its overall rating down to "Mixed." The main issue that PC gamers have with God of War Ragnarok is that it requires purchasers to have a PlayStation Network account to play. This is an inconvenience for many PC gamers, and it seems especially unnecessary for a single-player game like Ragnarok.
God of War Ragnarok is Getting Negative Reviews on Steam
God of War Ragnarok has also received plenty of positive reviews on Steam, with those users judging the game for its actual content. Almost all the negative reviews seem to be focused squarely on the PSN account requirement, though there are also those who aren't happy about God of War Ragnarok's massive file size, requiring over 100 GB on PC. Sony is unlikely to address either complaint, and so those that want to play God of War Ragnarok on PC will ultimately have to sign up for a PSN account and make sure they have enough storage space reserved for the gargantuan game.
This isn't the first time that God of War Ragnarok has been review bombed. In the year of its release, God of War Ragnarok was review bombed on Metacritic seemingly because some thought it would give Elden Ring a better chance at winning Game of the Year at The Game Awards. Ragnarok's user score on Metacritic eventually bounced back, and so it's quite possible the same will happen for the game on Steam.
