A new God of War Ragnarok PC mod fixes one annoying issue players had with the game since its 2022 PS5 launch: the seemingly never-ending chatter from Kratos’s companions. God of War Ragnarok was finally ported to PC on September 19, allowing gamers who don’t have a PS5 to experience the action-packed Norse epic with new graphical enhancements and other quality-of-life features. For the most part, Ragnarok has been hailed as another solid entry in the God of War series, featuring brutal combat, impressive visuals, and a deep and emotional story following Kratos and Atreus as they come to terms with their respective destinies.

Despite its high quality, one aspect of God of War Ragnarok that many players take issue with is the game’s puzzles, specifically the way that companion characters constantly spoil how to solve them. While many of these puzzles aren’t that challenging to begin with, allies like Atreus and Freya waste little time in giving hints or even outright revealing their solutions before the player even has time to act. Many God of War Ragnarok fans have voiced their complaints about this less-than-helpful feature, and even Sunny Suljic, the actor behind God of War’s Atreus, thinks that the sound of his own voice can get irritating while giving away obvious hints.

A modder named Mophead has put together a handy solution for God of War Ragnarok’s endless puzzle hints, at least for the recently released PC port. The aptly-titled “Please Shut Up (Companion Mute Mod)” is now available to download on NexusMods, and it removes over 1500 voice lines related to puzzles or combat hints. Some of the examples provided by the modder include Mimir pointing out when Kratos is impacted by elements like fire, companions reminding the player to block attacks with their shield if they get hit, and NPCs pointing out the solutions to certain puzzles.

New God of War Ragnarok PC Mod Removes Puzzle-Spoiling Dialogue

As pointed out by Mophead in the description of their God of War Ragnarok mod, these puzzle hints were largely meant to make the game more accessible to players who might not be as skilled with action titles, and for some, they could be genuinely helpful. When the God of War Ragnarok PC port was released on Steam and the Epic Games Store last month, developer Santa Monica Studios put out a patch that added an option to reduce these hints, though it didn’t remove them outright like Mophead’s mod does.

Mods are to be expected whenever a popular game like God of War Ragnarok is ported to PC, though certain tech-savvy players have been making tweaks even before it was made more readily available to modders. One particular mod removed God of War Ragnarok’s controversial PlayStation Network log-in requirement, though it was soon taken down just a few days after being posted.
