Updated 10/22: IGN reached out to Sony for some clarification on the matter. God of War Ragnarok will not have a dedicated 120 FPS gameplay option, but rather, it will support 120hz while trying to stay above 60 FPS. According to the IGN article, Sony said: "framerate will vary based on gameplay elements and the world location."

Original story follows.

God of War Ragnarok will offer a few different graphics options on PS5, including support for 120 FPS gameplay. God of War Ragnarok comes out next month, and Sony is celebrating its launch by releasing behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the game. The first episode is centered around God of War Ragnarok’s story, with new ones releasing every Tuesday for the next 9 weeks.

Some PlayStation 5 games offer a 120 FPS mode for an extremely smooth frame rate. Many of these titles are multiplayer-focused, such as Fortnite, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Destiny 2, and Rocket League, with games like Borderlands 3 and Doom Eternal also giving players an option for 120 FPS. Games nowadays usually have two modes, one for achieving the best possible visuals at 30 FPS, and another that targets 60 FPS. God of War Ragnarok is confirmed to have a few different graphics modes, with one option being a pleasant surprise.

Press Start Australia reports that gamers can choose from four graphics modes while playing God of War Ragnarok. It comes with two main options - Favor Resolution or Favor Performance, that function differently with High Frame Rate on or off. With it off, players can choose between 30 FPS gameplay at 4K, and a supposedly locked 60 FPS experience. With High Frame Rate turned on, God of War Ragnarok runs at 40 FPS in resolution mode and targets an impressive 120 FPS in performance mode.

Press Start Australia mentions that gamers will need an HDMI 2.1 compatible TV or monitor to play God of War Ragnarok at a targeted 120 FPS. Still, it’s an impressive technical achievement by developer Santa Monica Studio given the game’s overall visual quality.

Fans should note that God of War Ragnarok takes up a massive amount of storage space. The PS5 version needs 84 GB of space, as compared to 106.9 GB for its PS4 counterpart. The EU versions of God of War Ragnarok take up even more storage, so some players may have to delete data to make room for Kratos’ newest adventure.

Santa Monica Studio has confirmed that God of War Ragnarok marks the end of the Norse saga, so fans can probably expect it to be packed with content. However, a recent report revealed that Ragnarok will take around 40 hours to complete in total, with the story being 20 hours long. Judging by these numbers, the main plot appears to be as long as 2018’s God of War.

God of War Ragnarok launches on November 9 for PS4 and PS5.
