Summary
- God of War Ragnarok allows PC users to reduce companion puzzle hints, which were considered very "intrusive" by PS4 and PS5 players.
- PC players can rely more on their intuition to solve puzzles, rather than having them spoiled by God of War Ragnarok's companion characters.
- While the PC port of God of War Ragnarok addresses gameplay issues, players have complained about the game's massive file size and PSN login requirement.
With God of War Ragnarok now available on PC, players should note that they can tone down an aspect of the game that many found "intrusive" when it first released in 2022. Although God of War Ragnarok's supporting characters are very highly regarded, players did find them a bit too chatty while attempting to solve puzzles.
God of War Ragnarok garnered near-universal critical acclaim when it launched for PS4 and PS5 in late 2022. The sequel to the Game of the Year-winning 2018 reboot concluded the Norse saga, and it's currently unknown which mythology the next God of War game will tackle. Fans are eagerly anticipating the next mainline God of War entry, but are likely a few years away from hearing anything about it. For the time being, God of War Ragnarok's PC launch is worth discussing, especially since it brings along a very handy feature.
The Next God of War Title Has the Opportunity to Make a Drastic Perspective Change
The next God of War saga can add an extra sense of immersion with a drastic perspective change.
PC users booting up God of War Ragnarok will likely be glad to know that the game now has a setting to reduce the frequency of puzzle hints from companion characters. This was a fairly big issue when God of War Ragnarok first released, as companion characters would often provide overt hints for a puzzle before players could even attempt solving it themselves. Even Atreus actor Sunny Suljic found the puzzle hints annoying during his God of War Ragnarok playthrough, which goes to show how intrusive they were.
God of War Ragnarok Will Allow PC Players to Solve Puzzles Without Overt Guidance
Thankfully, developer Sony Santa Monica has taken the criticisms into account and granted PC players the choice to rely more on their inherent puzzle-solving skills, rather than letting a companion character spoil it for them. However, it's not all good news for the PC port, as many players have been complaining about God of War Ragnarok's immense 175GB file size. The PSN login requirement is another point of contention as well, so it'll be interesting to see how God of War Ragnarok fares on PC.
It remains to be seen whether the setting to reduce companion puzzle hints will make its way to the PS4 and PS5 versions of God of War Ragnarok as well, which shouldn't be too much of an ordeal on a technical level. The PC port also seems to be God of War Ragnarok's last major push from Sony Santa Monica, as the studio will likely focus all its efforts on the numerous projects it's currently developing, namely the next mainline God of War game, a brand-new IP, and a possible Atreus-led spinoff.
