God of War Ragnarok voice actor Sunny Suljic has revealed he wants to reprise his role as Kratos' son Atreus in Amazon's God of War series. Amazon confirmed earlier this week that the media conglomerate was working on a TV series based on the iconic adventures of Kratos. The initial announcement revealed that the show is set to adapt the plot of 2018's God of War, following the travels of Kratos and his son Atreus through the realm of Midgard. Now, at least one member of God of War's cast wants to be involved.
Sunny Suljic has seen plenty of praise within the gaming community for his portrayal of Atreus throughout God of War and the recently released sequel, God of War Ragnarok. Atreus serves as Suljic's first major role in a video game and saw several award nominations throughout both God of War games. Most recently, Suljic was nominated for Best Performance at the 2022 Game Awards, only losing out to fellow God of War star Christopher Judge for his performance as Kratos. Now, Suljic has revealed he wants to play Atreus in Amazon's series.
Sunny Suljic revealed his desire to play Atreus in the Amazon series on Wednesday afternoon, wanting to "get booked" for the role in the TV show. Amazon did not initially reveal any of the cast for its upcoming God of War series with its release believed to still be far away. A leading role in the Amazon God of War series would not be the first time Suljic has been in a TV show, playing brief one-episode roles in shows like Criminal Minds and the TV movie Shady Neighbors.
While few details have been given outside the plot following 2018's God of War, Amazon did reveal some of the staff behind the production of its upcoming TV series. Rafe Judkins will serve as showrunner, previously having written and produced Amazon's The Wheel of Time as well as writing Sony's Uncharted movie. Game director Cary Barlog will also serve on the staff for the TV series, acting as an executive producer for the project. Several other members of God of War developer Santa Monica Studio are also planned to help with production.
The God of War TV series announcement comes after Ragnarok has received massive acclaim following its release. The game received multiple nominations at the 2022 Game Awards with God of War Ragnarok taking home six awards from the annual awards show. Ragnarok would fall short in the Game of the Year voting, however, with fellow massively popular game Elden Ring clinching the highest honors. Amazon's God of War series will hope to capture the same success as the games that inspired it.
God of War Ragnarok is available now for PS4 and PS5.
