When Ghostwire: Tokyo launched as a timed PS5 console exclusive earlier this year, it was met with somewhat mixed reviews, but the inevitable Xbox port could help turn things around. Despite being developed and published by Microsoft-owned Tango Gameworks and Bethesda, Ghostwire: Tokyo was released as a PS5 console exclusive game due to pre-existing deals between Bethesda and Sony.

Ghostwire: Tokyo is the latest effort from Tango Gameworks, the Shinji Mikami-led studio that is best known for its Evil Within games. Ghostwire: Tokyo reviews for the PS5 version were mostly positive, but many critics had complaints about the game. There were those who didn't like Ghostwire: Tokyo's combat, and there were others who found the whole thing to be too repetitive. However, Ghostwire: Tokyo finds itself in a unique position because it will soon have a second chance at making a first impression.

It's believed that Ghostwire: Tokyo's PS5 exclusivity will run out on March 25, 2023, at which point, the game can be ported to other platforms. It's assumed Ghostwire: Tokyo will hit Xbox Game Pass the same day that it launches for Xbox Series X, and that's a reasonable assumption to make. Deathloop found itself in the exact situation Ghostwire: Tokyo was in, and as soon as its Xbox Series X version was available, it joined the Game Pass lineup.

Ghostwire: Tokyo on Xbox Could Have a New Update

Not only did Deathloop join Game Pass, but it also released a new update that added fresh content to the experience. It's possible, though unconfirmed, that Ghostwire: Tokyo will do the same. Not only that, but it's possible said update could go a long way in addressing some of the issues that critics had with Ghostwire: Tokyo at the time of its original release, though that's just speculation at this time. Nothing about the Ghostwire: Tokyo Xbox port has actually been confirmed at the time of this writing, so fans should keep their expectations in check. However, if the Ghostwire: Tokyo Xbox port does come with a substantial update, the game could find itself in a much better state on Xbox than it did when it launched as a PS5 console exclusive.

A Ghostwire: Tokyo update that addresses the complaints fans and critics alike had about the original release could be something that helps the game reach a much wider audience. The likely Ghostwire: Tokyo Xbox Game Pass debut will do that as well, helping the game reach players who may have not given it a chance otherwise. Between the potential for a new update and the likelihood that it will be available on Xbox Game Pass, Ghostwire: Tokyo is set up to make a big impact on Xbox and outdo its PlayStation version. Whether that comes to pass remains to be seen, but fans should find out at the end of March.

Ghostwire: Tokyo is available now for PC and PS5.
