Ghostwire: Tokyo has a wonderful amount of side quests and collectibles to get distracted by on the path to defeating Hannya and saving Mari. One of the first side quests that the player encounters will introduce them to an adorable Tanuki boss who has become separated from his 25 comrades. This will begin the "Tanuki Hunt" questline, where the player will need to find them and tell them to return to the boss, but the catch is that they have disguised themselves pretty effectively in the wake of the Visitor scourge.
Ghostwire: Tokyo players will have to keep a sharp eye when looking for the hidden Tanuki, who disguise themselves as inanimate objects. The player will be able to note that it is a Tanuki, however, as they have a dead giveaway: their fluffy tail, which protrudes from its rear.
There are many tools in the world available to the player to aid them in their search. Initially, the player can use Spectral Vision to highlight interactive objects in the environment. This will include the Tanuki, with their tail being highlighted in the outline. Players are also able to read the thoughts of cats and dogs wandering the streets who will occasionally give clues as to the whereabouts of their furry cousins.
Additionally, some shrines will have an Offering Box, in which the player can leave a donation in exchange for direct location markers on the map, even for Tanuki.
Hatsuike Shrine Tanuki Location
Some shrines will have multiple hidden Tanuki and some will have none at all. Fortunately, in the case of the Hatsuike Shrine, there is only one. Players will first need to clear the torii gate in order to cleanse the fog and reveal more of the map.
This torii gate is situated in a bit of an odd spot, being on the roof of a large building. The path to the rooftop may not be immediately obvious, as there are not many other buildings around for the player to jump from. The stairs as well will be blocked at the entrances; however, the player is able to go around behind the building where they should find a roofed bike rack. If the player jumps on this, they can then enter the stairway by vaulting over the wall. Be wary of the floating Ghostwire: Tokyo Visitors above.
Once the torii gate has been cleansed, the player can find the hidden Tanuki. Fortunately again, this Tanuki is very close to the gate. If the player looks down off the edge of the rooftop of the torii gate facing east, they should see a park area. In this park area should be a fairly obvious red rolling chair.
Upon further inspection, the player will find that it has a tail, thus being the hidden Tanuki. Interacting with it will open a dialogue, and the Tanuki will reward Ghostwire: Tokyo players with 100 XP and an emote called "Sumo Stance."
Ghostwire: Tokyo is available now for PS5 and PC.
