Just over a week after its release, Ghost of Tsushima remains on the top spot of UK's sales charts for the second week in a row, with Animal Crossing: New Horizons climbing back up to the number 2 slot. Meanwhile, Paper Mario: The Origami King lost momentum, dropping down to the 4th spot.
Both Ghost of Tsushima and Paper Mario: The Origami King released on July 17, selling strong and taking the top 2 spots of last week's chart. The popularity of Animal Crossing knows no bounds, however, as it quickly climbed back to second place this week.
Animal Crossing's slight dip in sales is no surprise due to some big games releasing this month. Ghost of Tsushima became Sony's fastest-selling exclusive within its first 3 days of release while Paper Mario: the Origami King filled a much-needed void in Nintendo releases, with the impact of COVID-19 affecting release plans.
The top 10 best sellers this week on all consoles are as follows:
1 Ghost of Tsushima
2 Animal Crossing: New Horizons
3 F1 2020
4 Paper Mario: The Origami King
5 Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
6 The Last of Us Part II
7 Minecraft (Switch Edition)
8 Grand Theft Auto 5
9 Forza Horizon 4
10 Ring Fit Adventure
Nintendo continues to support Animal Crossing with monthly updates, with the most recent update bringing back Animal Crossing's popular Bug-Off event on the third Saturday of every month through September.
It should come as no surprise that both Grand Theft Auto 5 and Minecraft also remain in the top 10. Both titles have had incredible lifetime sales spanning multiple generations. In addition, Ring Fit Adventure has seen an increase in popularity, as major lock-downs are limiting outdoor activities all over the world. The game has become so popular that quantities are severely limited with online shops quickly selling out of Ring Fit as soon as a restock comes in.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons has quickly become Nintendo's biggest title for the Switch. In the short amount of time since its release, New Horizons sales have become comparable to Mario Kart 8: Deluxe and The Legend of Zelda: Breathe of the wild, both of which have seen years of availability on the console.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now on the Nintendo Switch, and Ghost of Tsushima is available for PS4.
