Summary

  • Halloween is an ideal time to shiny hunt for Ghost-type Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
  • Mismagius, Annihilape, and Golett are standout spooky shinies to catch.
  • Mimikyu's bedsheet white costume makes it the perfect shiny for a Halloween hunt.

As Halloween is right around the corner, many shiny hunters in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are eyeing appropriately spooky Pokemon to shiny hunt. While many options fall under the idea of the season, only one clears the competition. With terror, creepiness, and general Halloween vibes exemplifying the type, the stars of most of these hunts will be ghost-type Pokemon.

Pokemon Shiny Fossil Ranked
Every Shiny Fossil Pokemon, Ranked

Fossil Pokemon are already some of the most mysterious Pokemon. Add their shiny color schemes to the mix, and they become must-have team members.

While ghost types make up the smallest amount of the national Pokedex, there are plenty of great shinies for players to try for. Between classic choices, new favorites, and some iconic shiny ghosts mixed in, there are several ghost-type Pokemon and their lines to shiny hunt in Scarlet and Violet.

13 Mismagius

The Wicked Mustard Witch

Shiny Mismagius
  • Type: Ghost
  • Generation Introduced: 2

While Mismagius and Misdreavus don't have the most ideal shiny palette swap, with the perfect opportunity for a witchy green going to the wayside, this line of fantastical ghosts definitely fit the Halloween feel.

With Misdreavus' origins as a haunting, screaming monster and Mismagius obviously leaning into the witchcraft look, this older pair of phantoms is ideal for this season.

12 Annihilape

Enraged Beyond The Grave

Shiny Annihilape
  • Type: Ghost/Fighting
  • Generation Introduced: 9

A subtle hue shift, Annihilape's slightly blue tint adds to the ghostly nature of this shocking Primeape evolution, with the cooler tones making the burning red glare of this furious spirit all the more obvious.

With such deep lore as being the result of Primeape getting so angry it literally dies, Annihilape's debut in Scarlet and Violet has served more than a great conclusion to this classic Pokemon, as it is ideal in many Tera raids. Annihilape's vaguely Luigi's Mansion look will certainly do the job for players wanting something spooky and functional.

11 Golett

Haunted Automaton

Shiny Golett
  • Type: Ghost/Ground
  • Generation Introduced: 5

A Generation 5 ghost, Golett, and Golurk have solidly spooky shiny colors. Shifting the muted teals and blues of their base plating and their bright yellow eyes for dulled and darkened purples with glowing green eyes. With these two haunted machines returning in the Indigo Disk DLC's Terrarium, players with access to this sliver of Unova should have no problem finding them.

With a fairly unique type combination of ghost and ground, singling either Golett or Golurk out in the polar biome isn't much of an issue, as those two types rarely show up in this chilly location.

10 Palossand

Beautiful Black Sand

Shiny Palossand In the Pokemon Games
  • Type: Ghost/Ground
  • Generation Introduced: 7

Back in Paldea and found across many of its beaches, Sandygast and Palossand add an air of elegance to this Halloween hunt, with striking black sand shiny counterparts. Outside just being fantastic shiny forms in general, this sandcastle pair definitely fit the theme of the season, as they are surprisingly one of the few shiny ghosts that go for a dark, black palette.

Since the shiny colors for Palossand are so drastic compared to both the original and the environment, it is essentially impossible to miss this giant pile of sand when it decides to shine, making it a fairly easy shiny hunt on top.

9 Rotom

The Original Poltergeist

Shiny Rotom
  • Type: Ghost/Electric
  • Generation Introduced: 4

One of the more iconic ghost-type Pokemon, Rotom, and its many forms are perfect for players wanting a shiny that can effectively serve as six shiny Pokemon in one. Changing its iconic blue and orange base look for peach and pink, this electric menace is far easier to shiny hunt in Scarlet and Violet than in either Sinnoh remake.

Iconic as a somewhat fake legendary in the games it originally debuted in, Rotom has since had a tremendous rise to fame and notoriety within the Pokemon games, as ever since Sword and Shield, players technically receive a Rotom as their first Pokemon, as it possesses the player's phone.

8 Gengar

The Classic Ghost Type

Shiny Gengar Scarlet Violet
  • Type: Ghost/Poison
  • Generation Introduced: 1

Perhaps the most famous ghost-type Pokemon, and one of the most well-known Pokemon in general, Gengar is a must for shiny hunts, if not for the shiny itself but just for the iconography of the Generation 1 ghost.

While Gengar's shiny isn't anything to write home about, having this rare ghost is a reward in itself. Featured in plenty of Halloween events for Pokemon throughout the years, having this mischievous phantom as a shiny hunt definitely adds to the holiday.

7 Flutter Mane

The Goth Misdreavus

shiny flutter mane pokemon
  • Type: Ghost/Fairy
  • Generation Introduced: 9

The ancient variant of Misdreavus, Flutter Mane's shiny forms continues in the same spirit as its more modern counterpart. With the addition of red details, monstrous eyes, and a slightly more green tint to the usual yellow, this prehistoric ghost captures aspects of witches and things that go bump in the night.

While this Pokemon is easily available for Scarlet players in the post-game, Violet players with friends that own Scarlet still have a chance at capturing this competitive menace.

6 Ceruledge

Haunted Armor

Shiny Ceruledge
  • Type: Ghost/Fire
  • Generation Introduced: 9

More readily accessible for Violet players, shiny Ceruledge may not live up to the hope of a palette swap with its counterpart Armarouge, but the burning eyes are still a welcomed change. Ceruledge offers a slight challenge for shiny hunters, especially since Charcadet has a similarly minor swap with blue eyes.

Fitting in as the haunted armor aspect to any good haunted house or castle, along with being a better option for Tera raids and for picking up items in the overworld, this ghastly evolution of Charcadet fits well into a Halloween hunt lineup.

5 Duskull

The Red Reaper

Shiny Duskull
  • Type: Ghost
  • Generation Introduced: 3

One of the more iconic ghost-type Pokemon from the Hoenn region, Duskull, and its entire evolution line offers a solidly spooky shiny hunt for anyone looking for a touch of grim reaper energy.

Going from a charcoal gray to a deep red, the shiny colors persist through both Duskull and Dusclops, while swapping to a chilling blue tone for Dusknoir.

4 Litwick

A Deadly Flame

Shiny Litwick
  • Type: Ghost/Fire
  • Generation Introduced: 5

Striking a perfect line between cute and creepy, Litwick and its evolutions are a must for ghost-type shiny hunters, let alone for shiny hunters during Halloween. With Litwick as a life-stealing haunted candle, Lampent following in a similar vein, and Chandelure as a haunted chandelier, they are perfectly in theme for a haunted house.

Although Chandelure has the most drastic shiny shift, going from ghostly purples to fiery oranges, Litwick switches its violet flame for a will-o'-the-wisp-inspired blue flame, adding a more haunting feel.
