Ghost of Yotei creative directors Nate Fox and Jason Connell reveal whether the popular Legends multiplayer mode will also be returning in this new game. Over the past few weeks, fans have been getting a lot of new information and details from Sucker Punch regarding the content and features of Ghost of Yotei, though questions do remain about potential multiplayer support.
Although both games are primarily single-player experiences, Sucker Punch surprised fans by adding a multiplayer mode to Ghost of Tsushima called Legends. The popular add-on mode saw four players team up as different classes as they battled waves of enemies. The classes, enemies, and missions were wrapped around themes inspired by Japanese folklore and mythology to enhance the experience and quickly became a popular addition to the base game.
Ghost of Yotei is Proving to Be ‘Ghost of Tsushima 2’ Even Without Jin Sakai
Ghost of Yotei may provide a wealth of new features, but, at the end of the day, it may be more of a 'Ghost of Tsushima 2' and less of a blank canvas.
However, one of the remaining mysteries of Ghost of Yotei is whether a similar multiplayer mode would be offered. In a recent interview, creative directors Nate Fox and Jason Connell were specifically asked about Legends possibly making a return in Ghost of Yotei, though the response given now seems to cast a bit of doubt on that happening, at least at launch. While Fox confirms the studio was "extremely happy with Ghost of Tsushima Legends" the devs are currently very focused on completing work on Ghost of Yotei before its launch date.
Ghost of Yotei Legends Could Still Arrive Eventually
While Fox's lack of a detailed answer may be disappointing news to many, it doesn't completely rule out the mode coming back. Fox doesn't outright deny a possible return for Legends, sidestepping the question to reiterate the priority being to finish the main game ahead of its October release date. Still, players will likely recall that Legends also saw plenty of changes and evolutions over the years after it first launched in 2020. In fact, the Director's Cut of Ghost of Tsushima even introduced new content and a game mode for Legends called Rivals, so even when Yotei launches, it isn't the end of the road.
While fans will have to wait a bit longer for any sort of multiplayer news, Sucker Punch continues to talk up how the upcoming game has improved over its predecessor. Alongside a new arsenal of weapons available to Atsu, Sucker Punch has made sure to continue to make Ghost of Yotei's open world interesting. Atsu can take advantage of her "Pack of Wolves" which allos her to battle alongside NPC characters, while also exploring their backstory. Campfires even let merchants and other interesting characters drop in on players, eliminating some of the traditional busywork seen inside other open world titles.
