The highly anticipated multiplayer Legends mode for Ghost of Yotei has finally received a release date of March 10, 2026, over five months after the game's release date. Announced during the February 12, 2026 State of Play event, Ghost of Yotei's Legends expansion builds on the core gameplay and tone of the same game mode established by its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima. It will arrive as a free DLC for all owners of the base game, just as its previous iteration did, and should also provide dozens of hours of extra content for players, depending on what they want to get out of it.
It's important to note that Ghost of Yotei's Legends mode doesn't just copy and paste Tsushima's or merely put a new skin on it, though. Rather, it appears to take the foundation laid by its predecessor and then considerably evolve the formula, almost to the point that it may feel like an even more substantial gaming experience than the first Legends proved to be. With Yotei-specific themes, enemies, and playstyles, as well as some new lobby features and improved visuals, Ghost of Yotei's Legends mode feels more like an upgrade than a simple continuation.

Ghost of Yotei: Legends Gives Tsushima's Iteration an Upgrade
How Ghost of Yotei: Legends Compares to Tsushima: Legends
- FREE FOR OWNERS – Both Ghost of Tsushima Legends and Ghost of Yotei Legends are free cooperative multiplayer modes added as no-charge DLC for base game owners.
- CO-OP FOCUS RETURNS – Each mode centers on online co-op play with friends rather than the solo campaign experience.
- GAME MODES SHARED – Both include two-player story missions and four-player survival matches as core multiplayer activities.
- SUPERNATURAL THEMES – Both Legends iterations lean into mythic, supernatural enemies and scenarios distinct from the main game's narrative.
- CLASS SYSTEM UPGRADE – Ghost of Yotei Legends introduces four distinct classes tied to the base game's broader combat systems, expanding on the roles seen in Tsushima's original lineup.
- ENEMY DESIGN SCALE – Ghost of Yotei Legends features giant demonic versions of the Yotei Six, a narrative tie-in absent from Tsushima's generic mythic foes.
- NEW LOBBY FEATURES – Ghost of Yotei Legends includes a social lobby with combat practice and mini-games, adding activities outside main missions not typically highlighted in Tsushima's mode.
- IMPROVED VISUALS – Because Ghost of Yotei runs on newer tech and hardware, its Legends mode benefits from updated visual fidelity compared with the original Legends era.
- PROGRESSION EMPHASIS – Ghost of Yotei Legends ties gear, cosmetics, and progression to the sequel's expanded combat mechanics, offering potentially deeper replay incentives.
Of course, Ghost of Yotei's Legends DLC is similar to its predecessor in a lot of ways. For one thing, it's completely free to Yotei owners, just as Ghost of Tsushima's own Legends mode was, and it is meant to be played cooperatively. Something that Sucker Punch hasn't made clear yet is whether the new Legends DLC can be played solo, but considering the first iteration of the game mode was entirely playable solo, Yotei's may be as well. But the two modes do still share similarities in their progression systems and mission styles, too, with Story, Survival, and Raid missions that will be available for teams of varying sizes.
Players will earn loot as they level up, but they can also acquire additional Legendary weapons and gear as they complete missions on higher difficulties.
Ghost of Yotei: Legends Has Some Distinct Differences
All of that said, Ghost of Yotei's Legends DLC has some distinct differences that are worth noting. The clearest, most defining difference between this iteration and the last is that it will center around the Yotei Six as bosses, pulling straight from Ghost of Yotei's story. Tsushima's Legends mode drew from broader Japanese mythology and the original game's lore, but Yotei's version ties directly to the sequel's narrative. Theoretically, this should expand the base game's story rather than simply being a detached add-on, so fans of Ghost of Yotei's narrative who want more of it shouldn't think twice about diving into Legends.
Another significant difference between Ghost of Yotei's Legends mode and Ghost of Tsushima's can be found in its classes. Whereas Tsushima's Legends classes were familiar archetypes like tank, damage dealer, and healer, Yotei's Legends classes (Samurai, Archer, Mercenary, or Shinobi) are tailored to the sequel's expanded weapon systems. Each class can use a katana and a ranged weapon, and they also uniquely specialize in one of Ghost of Yotei's weapons and combat systems.
Every Ghost of Yotei: Legends Class and Their Specialized Setup
- SAMURAI – Odachi and has access to the widest range of weapon types.
- ARCHER – Yari and can use an additional ranged weapon.
- MERCENARY – Dual katana and a variety of utility-focused abilities.
- SHINOBI – Kusarigama and a suite of stealth-focused skills.
Ghost of Yotei's Legends DLC also introduces a new lobby that will let players practice using their weapons and skills, challenge other players to a game of Zeni Hajiki, or attempt a Bamboo Strike and strive to set a high score. This is a brand-new addition Yotei is making to the original game mode, and should offer players a way to relax between missions and keep them immersed in the experience. Finally, the improved visuals offered by the PlayStation 5 should set Ghost of Yotei's Legends iteration apart from its predecessor, contributing to the incentive to dive into the mode all over again for those who might have already spent plenty of time in the Tsushima version.
The clearest, most defining difference between this iteration and the last is that it will center around the Yotei Six as bosses, pulling straight from Ghost of Yotei's story.
Ultimately, Ghost of Yotei Legends doesn't feel like a mere replacement for Tsushima's version but more like a natural evolution of the formula. It keeps the cooperative structure, difficulty tiers, and mythic flair that made the original so popular, but roots those ideas in Ghost of Yotei's own story, combat systems, and technical advancements. By centering the Yotei Six, refining class identities around the sequel's expanded weapon roster, and adding social features that extend the experience beyond missions, this new iteration of the massively popular game mode already feels worth the time, with enough differences to make it feel like a fresh experience.
