A new trailer for Ghost of Yotei has confirmed that the upcoming action-adventure game will receive a co-op multiplayer mode akin to its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima. The announcement came alongside fresh gameplay footage of Ghost of Yotei, shown off at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025.
Developed by PlayStation first-party team Sucker Punch, Ghost of Yotei is the long-awaited sequel to 2020's critically-acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima. Instead of Tsushima protagonist Jin Sakai, though, Ghost of Yotei shines the spotlight on a new character dubbed Atsu and is set 300 years later in the unruly lands surrounding Mount Yotei - known today as Hokkaido, Japan. Atsu's journey in Ghost of Yotei is one of revenge, as she seeks to hunt the Yotei Six - a group of warriors that killed her family.
The Case for and Against Ghost of Yotei Receiving Its Own Legends Multiplayer
It's unclear if Ghost of Yotei will offer its own version of Legends, but if it does, there are a few pros and cons to consider.
Ghost of Yotei Confirms Free Legends Multiplayer Mode Coming in 2026
Though the single-player offering looks great, many fans have wondered if Ghost of Yotei would include a multiplayer mode in the same vein as Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. Sucker Punch has now answered that question with Ghost of Yotei's new "Song of Vengeance" trailer, which just debuted at Gamescom Opening Night Live and confirms that the game will get a Legends co-op multiplayer mode as free post-launch DLC in 2026. Ghost of Yotei: Legends will feature two-player story missions and four-player survival matches, which will put players in one of four character classes and fight huge, demonic versions of the Yotei Six, as well as a "variety of new enemies."
Additionally, the new Ghost of Yotei trailer showcased some more gameplay of Atsu fighting bandits in a bevy of environments, facing off against a couple of Yotei Six members, and traversing the lands on her steed. Sucker Punch previously confirmed that Ghost of Yotei's playable weapons will include the Katana (dual wielding as well), Odachi, Kusarigama, Tanegashima Matchlock, Yari, bow and arrow, etc., and some of them made an appearance in this trailer.
The confirmation of a free co-op multiplayer mode is nothing short of exciting for Ghost of Yotei players, as the Legends mode for Ghost of Tsushima was well-received by fans. Combine that with the improvements Sucker Punch made to keep Ghost of Yotei's open world interesting, and the game looks to be a veritable step-up over Ghost of Tsushima.
