The Undying Samurai
A Not-So Immortal Warrior
- Featured in: The Undying Samurai Mythic Tale (Ishikari Plain)
The Undying Samurai is difficult for a few reasons, but that doesn't mean that players should be fooled by his name, for he is still very much killable. The reason the Undying Samurai is a hard fight is that most players will experience this duel early, especially since the Undying Samurai provides arguably the best armor in Ghost of Yotei (for healing builds). The Undying Samurai is a fierce fighter that uses fire on his sword, making parries harder than most, and if players haven't unlocked the Roll skill yet, then they're going to take some pretty nasty damage if they don't dodge those strikes.
Sword Thief
The Sword Thief Fights in a Style That Worships and Respects the Ghost of Tsushima
- Featured in: The Storm Blade Mythic Tale (Oshima Coast)
At the final resting place of the Ghost of Tsushima, Jin Sakai, the original Shinobi, lies an epic duel for his blade. Atsu will fight the Sword Thief for the Storm Blade, the weapon wielded by Jin that saved Tsushima from the first Mongol invasion. The Sword Thief, interestingly enough, uses Jin's stances and seems to have studied the way of the samurai from over 300 years ago. With a mixture of rolls and fast-striking blue glint attacks, the Sword Thief won't go down without a fight, and neither will the men left behind to avenge him.
The Oni
A Walking Brute and a Disgraced Samurai, Fights for His Honor
- Featured in: The Tale of the Oni (Ishikari Plain)
The Oni has the hulking size of a brute and uses this to his advantage. It's a high-stakes fight, and for most players, the first of the Yotei Six that players will battle in Ezo after the Snake. As their first ultimate challenge, the Oni does not disappoint, and there are plenty of lethal attacks that make this battle one of hardship. With two phases to challenge Atsu's resilience, players are in for a hard fight, especially with the first being in a darkened and tight arena, whereas the second phase is engulfed in fire, where the Oni will use powerful and fast fire attacks to test every dodge and parry.
Dojun (The Kitsune)
The Successor to the Kitsune Uses Smoke and Poisons to Fight Dirty
- Featured in: The Kitsune's Fate (Teshio Ridge)
Dojun is the successor to the Kitsune and one who fights with elusive and cheap tricks. Dojun prefers to use the Kusarigama, meaning range grants him an advantage. When the Kitsune isn't using ranged attacks or unblockable strikes, he's resorting to cheap tricks like smoke bombs in an effort to attack you within a shroud of smoke, and only through the use of the Focused Hearing mechanic can you see where he will strike next. This is also a two-part fight, like the Oni, and one that can be quite challenging for players who underestimate a foe who utilizes a multitude of weapons and gadgets.
The Spider
The Youngest Son of Lord Saito Fights With Nothing Left to Lose
- Featured in: Call of the Hunt
While the Spider's first fight shows how much of a joke and a failure he is to Lord Saito and his older brother, it's really his second fight that makes him a true threat. With nothing left to lose, the Spider demands vengeance for the life Atsu stole from him, and the life stolen from his brother, a payment that is not equal to the life that the Yotei Six stole from Atsu. The Spider's second fight consists of hard-to-dodge quickfire pistol attacks, meaning reflexes must be on top form to dodge being grazed or gutted by a bullet. The Spider also uses fast yellow glint attacks to make you drop your weapon, and blue glints to force a well-timed parry, making him an underestimated threat from both Atsu and his father.
The Dragon
The Eldest Son of Lord Saito Uses Firearms and His Brother to Win
- Featured in: The Reckoning
The Dragon is the Spider's older brother, and Lord Saito's clear favorite. A combatant who will fight to his last breath to appease his father, the Dragon will not only duel with a katana, but also rely on his brother to show dishonor during combat. The Dragon will occasionally shoot his own pistol while ordering the Spider to shoot a rifle at Atsu off-screen, demanding players pay close attention to the Dragon's command so they're not shot and killed. The arena also occasionally has fireballs that detonate, causing Atsu to lose her weapons, thus making the arena a deadly match between the eldest children of rival clans.
Lord Saito
The Leader of the Yotei Six Proves Why Ezo is His Kingdom
- Featured in: The Final Hunt of the Onryo
Atsu has trained for 16 years for this fight, and Lord Saito proves exactly why that was essential, and perhaps not enough. Lord Saito is nearly unstoppable. The leader of the Yotei Six, who demands vengeance for his soldiers and his sons, fights at the once-burning tree of Atsu's home using every combat technique and weapon players have learned throughout their bloodied journey across Ezo. The real fight begins when Lord Saito draws his katana, as he can instantly kill Atsu with his first strike. Not only will Lord Saito have Spirit of his own for special attacks and heals, but he will use such fast attacks that it's a fight in itself just to survive.
Takezo
The Unrivaled Seeks to Be Unrivaled No Longer
- Featured in: The Five Teachings Mythic Tale
Not only does Takezo require Atsu to prove her worth by defeating 5 of his Disciples, but she must then climb to the top of Mount Yotei to prove that she can best the unrivaled. This duel atop the mountain is one of epic proportions, and Takezo is certainly no joke. There's a reason he's unrivaled, and that's because he has an absurdly high health pool, extremely quick reflexes, and unpredictable attacks that make every attempt to strike back or parry a risky one. Not only will Takezo challenge every reflex and bit of patience that players have, but he will also provide a sharp focus on time, as the battle atop the mountain will slowly freeze Atsu and lower her health until Takezo falls.
