Summary

  • Ghost of Tsushima receives a new update patch for the console version, focusing on crossplay and matchmaking improvements.
  • Players enjoy Ghost of Tsushima's open-world samurai epic, with the PC port praised for technical performance and polish.
  • Director's Cut includes full game and Iki Island expansion.

The console version of Ghost of Tsushima just received a new update patch, not too long after one was released for the recent PC port. Sucker Punch’s open-world samurai epic earned much critical and commercial success when it first launched on the PS4 back in 2020, and this would only grow after Ghost of Tsushima was updated for PS5 the following year. Players were wowed by the story of Jin Sakai, a samurai warrior on a quest to free his homeland from an invading Mongolian army. To do this, he must choose between maintaining the honorable teachings of the samurai or embracing the sneakier path of stealth-based assassination.

Earlier this month, prolific PlayStation PC port developer Nixxes Software helped bring Ghost of Tsushima to the larger PC market - though not without its setbacks. Shortly before the game launched on May 16, Steam was forced to delist Ghost of Tsushima in several countries due to their lack of support for PlayStation Network, which players are required to log into for the game’s multiplayer. Despite this issue, Ghost of Tsushima has enjoyed record-breaking player counts on PC, with many praising the port for its smooth technical performance and overall polish.

Last week, Ghost of Tsushima received its first update patch on PC, but the developers haven’t forgotten about the original console version that first introduced players to the legend of Jin Sakai. Ghost of Tsushima Update Patch 2.21 is now available to download on PS4 and PS5, improving crossplay and adding updates to the game’s matchmaking service across all supported platforms. This is being done to improve stability on the PC version of Ghost of Tsushima, which also received an update that improved the game’s stability for AMD Radeon GPUs.

Ghost of Tsushima Update Patch 2.21 Improves Crossplay On Consoles

Said update also featured enhancements to Ghost of Tsushima’s Legends mode, an online co-op multiplayer experience that sees players choose between four different character classes and complete missions in a world inspired by ancient Japanese mythology. Sony confirmed that Ghost of Tsushima would include crossplay support to allow players on PC and console to enjoy the game’s multiplayer together, though it is still currently in beta.

Fans shouldn’t expect anything too drastic from these latest Ghost of Tsushima updates, but Sucker Punch and Nixxes will likely continue to tweak the game to ensure players have the best experience possible. There are rumors that Sucker Punch is already working on a Ghost of Tsushima sequel, but for now, gamers can play through Jin’s sweeping saga either again or for the very first time thanks to the recent PC port.

In the late 13th century, the Mongol empire has laid waste to entire nations along their campaign to conquer the East. Tsushima Island is all that stands between mainland Japan and a massive Mongol invasion fleet led by the ruthless and cunning general, Khotun Khan.

As the island burns in the wake of the first wave of the Mongol assault, courageous samurai warrior Jin Sakai stands resolute. As one of the last surviving members of his clan, Jin is resolved to do whatever it takes, at any cost, to protect his people and reclaim his home. He must set aside the traditions that have shaped him as a warrior to forge a new path, the path of the Ghost, and wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Tsushima.
