Summary
- Ghost of Tsushima on PC saw a strong start with 61,000 concurrent players, just below Spider-Man and above Horizon: Zero Dawn.
- Nixxes, handling the port, offers detailed graphical settings and support for multi-monitor setups to enhance the game's cinematic feel.
- Sony's focus on PC ports for high-performing titles like Ghost of Tsushima shows the company is committed to bringing its biggest games to the platform.
Ghost of Tsushima has been available on PC for a couple of days and is already one of the top games on Steam in terms of concurrent players. Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut was released May 16 and has already hit one of the highest peak player levels among games available on PlayStation and PC.
The much-anticipated arrival of the samurai epic to PC was marred by Sony requiring PlayStation Network accounts to moderate the game's multiplayer feature. This was a similar situation to the recent Helldivers 2 upset that led to the game being delisted in several countries where PSN is not supported.
Ghost of Tsushima 2: Theories About The Sequel
With the Ghost of Tsushima sequel rumored to be under development, fans are sharing many theories about what the second title will entail.
Despite all this, Ghost of Tsushima has hit about 61,000 concurrent players, according to data from SteamDB. In terms of all-time highest concurrent players among PlayStation-to-PC exclusives, it's just below Spider-Man with 66,000, but above Horizon: Zero Dawn with 57,000. Reviews for the game are described as "Overwhelmingly Positive" despite previous review-bombing in light of the PSN refunds.
Ghost of Tsushima Steam Concurrent Player Count Record
- 61,000 concurrent players
The graphical settings for Ghost of Tsushima on PC allow for precise tweaking and tuning for the discerning PC player. Nixxes, the company handling the port in tandem with original developer Sucker Punch, has also built in compatibility for dual and triple monitor setups. In theory, gamers should have all they need to enhance the already highly cinematic nature of Ghost of Tsushima.
Ghost of Tsushima has a PlayStation overlay on the PC port for those that have connected their PSN accounts as well. It's supposed to function similarly to the pre-existing Steam overlay, but it's more focused on connecting the experience between PlayStation and PC. Players will be able to monitor their trophies acquired on PC as well as PS5, if they have a PS5 copy of the game, and check their PSN friends list to see who's on. So far, the overlay doesn't allow for chatting, so players will either have to use Discord or the in-game chat if they want to coordinate attacks in Legends mode.
Porting Ghost of Tsushima to PC seems to represent the continuation of a sort of paradigm shift at Sony, who seem to be focusing more and more on ports of this nature for some of its most high-performing titles. It could also align with a push to diversify IP across a variety of media, as seen with the positive critical reception of the live-action adaptation of The Last of Us. Lest anyone forget the Ghost of Tsushima film adaptation that is currently in the works. But until then, fans seem thrilled enough to customize their Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut experience just how they want it on PC.
