The Hidden Cove Tournament serves as a way for players to test their skills against the best of the best Ghost of Tsushima has to offer. Unlocked in Iki Island's Fune's Refuge after completing 'Jin from Yarikawa' main mission, the tournament pits players against four fearsome opponents.
One of the more difficult fights in the tournament is against Owan, an exiled monk who claims to have beaten his attackers to death using only an alms bowl. Now, he’s here to hone his skills.

Owan's Attack Pattern in Ghost of Tsushima
Owan's attack pattern is basically a combination of two attacks: a kick and an unblockable overhead sword swing. Sometimes he will follow up a kick with the overhead sword swing, sometimes with another kick, sometimes with three kicks. He can even jump directly into an overhead sword swing and follow it up with a kick.
The main problem when facing Owan is that Jin doesn't have any opportunity to counterattack. His kick can be blocked but not parried, and his sword swing cannot be blocked or parried, basically requiring you to dodge every time. And to top it off, Owan is absolutely incredible at dodging almost all of Jin's attacks. Even if you perfect dodge his attacks and try to take advantage of the slowed time to deal damage, he will easily sidestep the attempt.
How to Beat Owan in Ghost of Tsushima
Fortunately, this fight becomes easy once you figure out the trick to it. The key to beating Owan is to use the Moon Stance's heavy attack to break his guard and score an easy point. This is because, in the Moon Stance, Jin's heavy attack is a kick effective for breaking guards of Brutes, and despite his inoffensive appearance, Owan falls under that category.
One kick from Jin can easily break his guard and leave him open for a swift sword strike. Just remember not to fall into his rhythm. If he dictates the pace of the fight, it can still result in a loss.
The Sarugami Armor can also counter Owan, as if Jin manages to perfect dodge an attack, he can follow it up with an area-of-effect swinging attack that is guaranteed to hit—a surefire way to score a point.
After Owan, players will have to face the murderous merchant Take and the crimson fisherman Sao to finish out the tournament. Winning offers the following rewards:
