- Doing so breaks the game, so it clearly wasn't intended.
- The prologue boss was unkillable in the PlayStation version of Ghost of Tsushima.
The PC port of Ghost of Tsushima makes it possible to kill Khotun Khan during the prologue fight. Multiple players have already managed to do so shortly after Ghost of Tsushima debuted on Steam, only to find out that the game doesn't exactly reward that achievement.
Spoilers for the first hour of Ghost of Tsushima ahead.
The opening sequence of the hit action adventure ends with the player facing the game's villain, the leader of the invading Mongol horde, on a castle bridge. The PlayStation version of Ghost of Tsushima made Khotun Khan unbeatable during this encounter; while he does have a health bar that can be chipped down, even going through the effort of getting his health to zero doesn't actually do anything. Players are hence forced to lose, which triggers a cutscene that transitions them from the linear prologue to the open-world gameplay of Act 1.
Winning the First Boss Fight in Ghost of Tsushima PC Version Breaks the Game
But the newly released PC port of Ghost of Tsushima doesn't work like that. Instead, some fans have found that the Khotun Khan fight is actually winnable this time around, with the Mongol villain succumbing to his wounds if the player is skilled enough to chip him down. Doing so still isn't advised, as it will completely break the game; the camera will remain locked in the direction of Khotun Khan's dead body and there will be no way to progress the story. Reddit user _what-is-life_, who was among the first to discover this curious possibility, reports that even the background sounds will remain on a loop, with Khotun Khan's soldiers still cheering wildly after his death.
In light of that outcome, there is little doubt that the PC version of Ghost of Tsushima made Khotun Khan killable by mistake. What exactly happened during the porting process to cause this bug is unclear. But given how the vast majority of players will naturally fall to Khotun Khan as they were intended to, addressing this issue might not be too high up Nixxes Software's list of priority fixes right now. Breaking the game in this manner is also not terribly inconvenient, with the players who did so reporting they were able to simply reload the last checkpoint and then die intentionally to Khotun Khan to continue the story.
The newly emerged evidence of the first Khotun Khan fight being winnable has reignited some fan discussion about whether Ghost of Tsushima should have had a secret ending triggered by this achievement. While that didn't come to pass, Sucker Punch will have another chance to implement something of the sort in the game's purported sequel, which is widely reported to have been in the works for years by now, and is expected to be announced in 2024, possibly as early as the rumored PlayStation Showcase in May.
