George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones prequel series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, gets yet another promising update regarding the production status of the HBO show from the fantasy author himself. Based on Martin's Dunk and Egg books, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is currently in post-production with HBO, where it will tell the story of Martin's first novella. It's been months since House of the Dragon season two ended, leaving a massive dragon-shaped hole in the hearts of George R.R. Martin fans but, thankfully, there's even more Game of Thrones fantasy lore right around the corner.
Towards the end of last year, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms found five more cast members to join its epic fantasy adventure. Actors Ellie McHale-Roe and Carla Harrison-Hodge will star as Lia the Lovely and Beony, who are rumored to play sex workers, and Eric Nolan, who played Dorregaray in The Witcher Season 3, is set to take on an unknown role. Martin is a creator and executive producer on the prequel along with Ira Parker and Ryan Condal and stars Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall, who is a hedge knight, and Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg, aka Prince Aegon Targaryen, who serves as Duncan’s squire. Always outspoken about his adaptations, Martin has revealed what he thinks about the final cuts of the series, including how many episodes it will receive.

George R.R. Martin Has a Lot of Love for Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Episodes
Writing on his infamous Not A Blog website, Martin gushed about the spin-off, revealing how much he enjoyed watching the final cuts of the series. “I just watched it again last week, the latest cuts. It’s looking good, I think. I love it lots, but I’m not one to judge.” Martin made sure to make a point of including that this adaptation would be coming before any of the other long lists of adaptations that are being developed, while also stating how many episodes the spin-off will get. “A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms will come first. Six episodes, the HBO adaptation of the first Dunk & Egg novella, “The Hedge Knight,” he wrote.
Not willing to stop there on update reveals, Martin also gave fans some news about the planned second season of A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms, saying that the team on the show is working away like busy bees on bringing Dunk and Egg’s continued adventure to life, “Meantime, in London Towne, Ira Parker and his team are huddled together beating out “The Sworn Sword,” the second Dunk and Egg adventure.” Martin also praised how great it was to see the characters he wrote be brought to life on the small screen and revealed that it made him want to "start writing the next novella tomorrow", which surely wouldn't go down too well with fans who have been waiting 14 years for The Winds of Winter. However, Martin noticed this commitment, saying, "But of course, I can’t. Too many other things to do.”
Although there isn't a release date just yet, HBO officially has a 2025 release window in place for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight. However, fans will likely not see new episodes of House of the Dragon Season three until summer 2026 .
