Summary

  • The Traveler's new Hydro Elemental Resonance is a powerful addition, offering DPS, healing, and shielding capabilities.
  • Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of each Elemental Resonance is crucial before investing in upgrades for the Traveler.
  • While the Traveler's different Elemental Resonances provide unique benefits, some may be more suited for support roles than DPS.

The Traveler character in Genshin Impact has arguably always been worth using, but now even more so with the ability to align them with new Elements that change the character’s kit. Specifically, the new Hydro Elemental Resonance for the Traveler in Genshin Impact is quite powerful, but some of the older Elemental Resonances can also be worth investing in.

While the Traveler’s character level is universal, none of the talent upgrades are shared between their different Elemental Resonances. Consequently, players should understand the strengths and weaknesses of each Elemental Resonance before investing in any upgrade materials and using the Traveler main character.

Genshin Impact: Explaining the Traveler's Complicated Role as the Fourth Descender

With Genshin Impact bringing up descenders, it's imperative players know that through the Traveler, they play as the fourth descender.

The Strengths and Weaknesses of the Traveler's Elemental Resonances

Elemental Resonance: Strengths: Weaknesses:
Anemo
  • Short ability cooldowns
  • Healing kill-skill
  • HP stat scaling
Dendro
  • High-damage Dendro Elemental reactions
  • Elemental Mastery stat scaling
  • Provides increases Elemental Mastery to teammates
  • Pyro reactions will cancel Elemental Burst early
Electro
  • Provides great Energy Regeneration to self and teammates
  • Energy Regen stat scaling
  • Long ability cooldowns
  • Poor DPS potential
Geo
  • Short ability cooldowns
  • Can have multiple active Geo Constructs
  • Elemental Burst increases teammates’ critical hit rate
  • Geo has limited Elemental Reactions
  • Abilities and talents don’t scale with any stats
Hydro
  • Utilizes HP-Consuming damage buff
  • Passive healing ability
  • Passive shield ability
  • HP stat scaling
  • Relies heavily on ability uptime

Anemo Elemental Resonance: While the Anemo Traveler features a talent that can heal them, this source of healing isn’t reliable enough to replace a dedicated healing character in Genshin Impact. Also, the best way to use Anemo Swirl reactions is with a high Elemental Mastery stat, which makes the Anemo Traveler’s scaling with HP seem unfitting.

Dendro Elemental Resonance: While Pyro reacting with Dendro is one of the strongest Dendro Elemental reactions in Genshin Impact, this reaction comes with a downside for the Dendro Traveler. Specifically, Pyro reactions can end the Traveler’s Elemental Burst ability. This will provide an immediate instance of damage, but it will cancel the ability’s buffs and AoE damage early. While players can avoid this by being mindful of their characters who use Pyro abilities, enemies that use Pyro attacks aren’t so easy to avoid.

Electro Elemental Resonance: The Electro Traveler is one of the best battery support characters in Genshin Impact, because of the energy regeneration that they provide to themselves and other characters, which scales with the Traveler’s own energy regeneration stat. The main downside of the Electro Traveler, though, is that their Elemental Skill has a slightly longer cooldown than the other Elemental Resonance Traveler builds. While this longer cooldown is seemingly only a minute difference, it ends up resulting in a significantly lower DPS compared to the other Elemental Resonances for the Traveler, hence why this character is better used as a support instead of a primary DPS role.

Geo Elemental Resonance: What makes Geo Traveler so strong is their short ability cooldowns that can lead to them having multiple Geo Constructs on the field at a time. This will provide ample opportunities for Geo Elemental reactions and generating energy for players using Geo team compositions in Genshin Impact. However, Geo Elemental Reactions are one of the weakest Elemental reactions in Genshin Impact against Elemental shields. Another flaw of this build is that it suffers from power creeping at higher levels since none of the Geo Traveler’s abilities or talents naturally scale with the character’s stats.

Hydro Elemental Resonance: Ever since it was introduced, the Hydro Traveler has arguably become the highest DPS build for the Traveler in Genshin Impact. What makes this build especially strong is that it has access to the HP-consuming damage buff that is normally exclusive to the 5-Star Fontaine Characters. Additionally, this build can also provide healing and shielding, resulting in an all-in-one support, DPS, and healing build.
