According to a reliable source in the Genshin Impact community, Skirk has received some interesting changes to her ability kit, implying that she will be a balanced character with some team flexibility. As a character, Skirk has been teased by Genshin Impact since Version 1.1. However, it wasn't until Natlan that HoYoverse finally took steps to make her playable. The first information that arrived about her ability kit revealed Skirk as a 5-Star Cryo Sword, but it wasn't until Escoffier that leaks started to connect her as a Freeze hypercarry.
Genshin Impact is certainly no stranger to Freeze hypercarries. Ayaka and Ganyu used to be staples of the meta for most of Inazuma before they were left behind in Sumeru with the emergence of Hyperbloom. Though Escoffier breathed new life into Genshn Impact's Cryo element, the renowned chef of Fontaine was made with Skirk in mind. Both Escoffier and Skirk can only reach their full potential in Freeze builds, which makes them natural teammates.
Genshin Impact Could Break Another Pattern With Skirk
Recent information from the Genshin Impact beta suggests that Skirk will break an old unspoken rule, which could have both good and bad implications.
Thanks to the efforts of HomDGCat, Genshin Impact players can have a detailed overview of the latest Skirk changes in the Version 5.7 beta. An important thing to note is that Skirk will no longer work with Shenhe in Genshin Impact, as the newest build clarifies that she exits Seven-Phase Flash when switching to a different party member. Other key changes include a nerf to her interruption resistance, and a way to generate Cryo particles when dealing any Cryo damage – thus introducing synergy with Chongyun.

Particle Generation
- When any Cryo DMG hits a monster, generates 4 Cryo Particles, CD 15s. Any means any. If the player uses Chongyun E to infuse her Normal Attacks, she will generate particles with these Normal Attacks.

- Havoc Extinction: Normal Attack DMG increase is ordinary DMG Bonus.
- Havoc Ruin: The Serpent's Subtlety consumption DMG increase is an increase to the DMG multiplier, and applies to all 6 hits.
While Skirk in Genshin Impact does have an exciting ability kit, she isn't intended to powercreep existing characters. Her Elemental Burst is capable of dealing immense damage in a single rotation, but Skirk teams will struggle with particle generation – which is where Ayaka and Ganyu excel by comparison. To solve this, Skirk will likely need to equip her teammates with Favonius weapons, with Escoffier and Yelan being the best candidates.
That being said, Skirk appears to leave the door open for a quickswap playstyle, which would make her a potential party member in Neuvillette or even Ayaka teams. It remains to be seen how beta testing will continue to unfold, but Genshin Impact fans seem content with the overall direction of Skirk so far. She is expected to debut on the Event Banners in Version 5.7 of Genshin Impact, with the update itself set for launch on June 18, 2025.
