Summary

  • Neuvillette's Charged Attack is unique and releases a massive surge of water that lasts for three seconds, making him different from other characters like Yanfei or Ningguang.
  • Players should rely on Sourcewater Droplets to cast Neuvillette's Charged Attack instantly, as it generates healing and allows him to be self-sustainable without depending on healers.
  • Neuvillette's primary ability scales with HP, not ATK, so players should focus on stacking HP instead of ATK to maximize his damage output. Additionally, triggering Hydro-related reactions boosts his Charged Attack damage significantly.

Player Mistakes

Back to All Characters

The Chief of Justice, Neuvillette, mostly uses his Charged Attack to deal damage in Genshin Impact. However, he doesn’t hit like a typical Charged Attack, so players shouldn’t expect him to play like Yanfei or Ningguang. Instead, Neuvillette’s Charged Attack releases a massive surge of water that lasts for three seconds (this can be extended with his final Constellation).

Due to this new mechanics, it’s only natural that people must learn how to use it properly. Therefore, to help Travelers know how to play Neuvillette in Genshin Impact, here are some mistakes they should avoid when playing the Iudex of Fontaine.

6 Charge Attacking Without Sourcewater Droplet

The main feature of Neuvillette's kit is his Charged Attack, but it has a massive casting time that lasts for around four and a half seconds. Fortunately, players can cast the move almost instantly by relying on Sourcewater Droplet. Neuvillette will generate three when he hits an enemy with his Skill and six with his Burst. An instant Charged Attack will consume three Sourcewater Droplet, which means a Burst and Skill generates enough for three Charged Attack. These Droplets will also heal him, making him a self-sustainable character that doesn't have to rely on healers to keep him alive.

This also means that Neuvillette's Burst is crucial to have. He can't constantly Charged Attack with his Skill alone, so having some Energy Recharge sub-stat can be extremely handy. People shouldn't ignore his Skill and Burst levels as both deal decent damage, and it'll be a large DPS loss to not upgrade them.

5 Not Knowing His Arkhe Ability

Like any other Fontaine character in Genshin Impact, Neuvillette also has Arkhe energy to nullify Pneumousia energy. In his case, players can use his Elemental Skill to deal Pneuma damage, which can be triggered every 10s.

Sadly, his Spiritbreath Thorn scales with ATK, so the damage dealt won't be significant. However, it'll still come in handy against Clockwork Mekas and puzzles in the open world. On top of Pneuma Arkhe, Neuvillette's exploration passive is also great for underwater exploration. It increases underwater Sprint SPD by 15%, so combining it with other abilities like Freminet's will ensure a faster sea adventure.

4 Stacking The Wrong Stat

Similar to Yelan in Genshin Impact, Neuvillette's primary ability scales entirely with HP, so he doesn't need ATK at all. This is different from other units like Nahida who benefit from both Elemental Mastery and ATK. Neuvillette's Charged Attack, Skill, and Burst all scale with health, but his Normal Attack still scales with ATK. This means people must not use Neuvillette's Normal Attack as the damage will be underwhelming.

Players should also avoid things that increase ATK as it won't affect Neuvillette. Good examples of this include ATK buffs like Bennett's Burst, Pyro Resonance, or even Guoba's chili. If Xiangling is on the team, she should be the one picking Guoba's chili and benefit from the ATK boost.

3 Not Having Enough Elemental Reactions

Playing with Hydro Resonance may be tempting to increase Neuvillette's health, but players may end up missing some buff from the Iudex's second Ascension passive (A2). Not to mention that there aren't many Hydro characters that are fully compatible with Neuvillette, so bringing two Hydro is not ideal to begin with.

Neuvillette's A2 boosts Charged Attack damage when Hydro-related reactions are triggered by a party member, up to three stacks. The damage addition is quite significant, so players mustn't ignore this feature. Fortunately, any Hydro-related reactions are accepted, including Hydro Crystallized and Hydro Swirl, so people can still use characters like Zhongli and Kazuha.

2 Worrying About Health

neuvillette worrying about health in genshin impact

Neuvillette loses HP when he uses his Charged Attack while having more than 50% HP, but players shouldn't panic and bring a healer into his team because he can heal himself easily. When he absorbs Sourcewater Droplet from his Skill or Burst, he can practically return to full health, and players can keep using this feature to ensure his survivability as he can't go below 50% HP with his Charged Attack.

Keeping Neuvillette at high HP is also important for his fourth Ascension passive (A4), where for every 1% of his current HP above 30% max HP, he gains 0.6% Hydro DMG Bonus, up to 30%. This means the Iudex will maximize the buff by having at least 80% of max HP.

1 Getting Interrupted Too Often

Neuvillette's Charged Attack lasts for three seconds and requires Sourcewater Droplet to be cast instantly, so having it interrupted will greatly mess up the rotation. Therefore, players must either use a shield or learn proper distancing.

Neuvillette's Hydro torrent has a massive range and can hit enemies far away, so people can simply hit the foes from afar to avoid interruptions. Just keep an eye on ranged attacks like Treasure Hoarder's bottles or Maguu Kenki's violent slashes. Additionally, keep in mind that some abilities like Xiangling's Pyronado demand people to be close to enemies, so distancing is not viable in these cases.
