At long last, the Natlan region has arrived in Genshin Impact, and to introduce it, players will meet local guide Mualani. In addition to her skills as a sightseeing pro, Mualani is also the first playable five-star from the Nation of Pyro. As a Hydro catalyst user, and a member of the Meztli tribe, Mualani rides on her trusty friend Sharky to skim across the water and battle enemies in combat.

Players who add Mualani and Sharky to their team will want to collect the needed materials for the Hydro user's ascension and talent upgrades. All of those items, as well as how to obtain them, will be outlined in this guide.

Mualani Leveling Materials

From the beginning of the Traveler's journey up until the sixth nation on their trek, Natlan, every playable character they've met will use the same amount of EXP to reach level 90. Mualani is no different! Here's how much is needed between each ascension level:

Mualani will need quite a few items from around Natlan, so it's a good thing that she's such a good guide to the area.

Gemstones - Where to Find Varunada Lazurite

This blue gemstone is used by every Hydro character in the game for their ascension. To find it, Traveler's can complete their daily commissions, convert it from other gems, or use a variety of other methods outlined in this guide:

However, the vast majority of Varunada Lazurite is sourced from boss fights. These bosses are capable of dropping it:

• Primo Geovishap*

• Hydro Tulpa
• Solitary Suanni
• Childe (Enter the Golden House)
• Azhdaha (Beneath the Dragon Queller)*

• Scaramouche (Joururi Workshop)
• All-Devouring Narwhal (Shadow of Another World)

*Both the Primo Geovishap and Azhdaha can only drop Varunada Lazurite when they are infused with Hydro.

Local Specialty - Where to Find Sprayfeather Gill

The local specialty of Natlan that Mualani uses will require her to visit home, as it's found near the Meztli tribe, in shallow waters all around the area. It's also dotted around Toyac Springs. She'll need a whopping 168 pieces of this plant to ascend all the way up to her max level.

Boss Drop - How to Get Mark of the Binding Blessing

During their first few days in Natlan, player swill want to remember to challenge certain bosses so they can earn the items needed to ascend new characters. For Mualani, this is the Goldflame Qucusaur Tyrant, which drops the Mark of the Binding Blessing when defeated. She'll need this item to ascend. Find it only in Natlan, and be sure to bring characters that can cause elemental reactions with Pyro, like Mualani herself.

Enemy Drop - Where to Find Sauroform Tribal Warrior Whistles

Natlan's resident human faction of enemies are the Sauroform Tribal Warriors. There are many different classes of these warriors, but they all have the same drops — whistles. These are the enemy item needed in Mualani's ascension.

Mualani Talent Materials

Mualani will use the Contention series of Natlan talent books, as well as the Lightless Mass from Fontaine's All-Devouring Narwhal fight. She'll also need everything else outlined here.

Talent Books - Contention

The talent series Mualani's talent upgrades require is Contention. These books are obtained from Natlan's talent domain, Blazing Ruins, on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

Trounce Materials - Lightless Mass

Venturing back to Fontaine is a must for upgrading Mualani's talents to their highest levels. This is because she uses the Lightless Mass, which drops from the All-Devouring Narwhal fight inside the Shadow of Another World trounce domain. This domain is unlocked after clearing the Archon Quest titled "Finale," in Chapter IV: Act V - Masquerade of the Guilty.
