An extremely detailed model of Waxaklahun Ubah Kan was discovered in the latest beta build for Version 5.2 of Genshin Impact. While NPCs in Genshin Impact rarely get unique models, the colorful tribes of Natlan and its dragons have almost necessitated a change in direction. The Children of Echoes, Scions of the Canopy, and Collective of Plenty all have unique clothing styles, and each tribe features its own Saurian with exclusive exploration abilities. Though Genshin Impact is placing an even bigger emphasis on its NPCs than ever before in Natlan, the trend arguably started in Version 4.4 and Version 4.6 with Fujin and Naphis, respectively.
Natlan in Genshin Impact is home to six major tribes, but historically, it is also the nation of dragons. Waxaklahun Ubah Kan is a key figure from its past, known as the dragon that stole Phlogiston from the Pyro Sovereign and taught the humans of Natlan how to wield it. While his feelings towards humanity border on apathy, his support of Xbalanque helped establish the modern nation of Natlan. Introduced in Version 5.0, players will have a chance to learn more about Waxaklahun Ubah Kan when they visit Ochkanatlan in Version 5.2.
Genshin Impact Leak Hints at Next Natlan Archon Quest
A recent leak from Genshin Impact is teasing the next update to the game's Archon Quest, also hinting at which characters will be involved.
However, to everyone's surprise, it would seem that Version 5.2 is not only giving Waxaklahun Ubah Kan a unique model, but it is quite possibly the most detailed model an NPC has ever received during the game's long history. The model comes from Jelena via Plum Team Leaks, and depicts a large serpentine dragon wearing majestic robes. Waxaklahun Ubah Kan is a reference to Kukulkan, and his model clearly draws inspiration from the feathered serpent of the Maya. With Genshin Impact Version 5.2 introducing Chasca and her Story Quest, it can safely be assumed that the Sage of the Stolen Flame will make his appearance during the next World Quest chapter.
Genshin Impact Leaks Waxaklahun Ubah Kan's Model
Given how fond Genshin Impact is of reusing NPC models, there is an argument to be made that Waxaklahun Ubah Kan will pave the way for more dragons to appear in the future. The Fontaine era established the importance of Dragon Sovereigns in the larger narrative of Genshin Impact, and Natlan appears to take the concept a step further. While most players remain hopeful that Xbalanque will become a playable 5-Star character in Genshin Impact, Waxaklahun Ubah Kan can certainly be considered a major breadcrumb for that community.
Version 5.2 is expected to launch on November 20, 2024, and will introduce a new region of Natlan to Genshin Impact. While the conclusion of the Archon Quest is being withheld for Version 5.3, the upcoming patch is expected to have a lot of content for players to sink their teeth into. In addition to Chasca and Ororon becoming playable characters, the new region will feature the Flowerfeather Clan, Masters of the Night-Wind, and Ochkanatlan – complete with new exploration mechanics and enemies.
