Summary

  • Level up Clorinde's Elemental Skill for max DPS with minimal material farming and resin usage.
  • Understand Bond of Life mechanics for effective healing and strategic play in Genshin Impact battles.
  • Utilize Clorinde's mobility and Elemental Burst for efficient combat and maximizing DPS potential.

Like most 5-star characters from Genshin Impact Fontaine, Clorinde was teased at the release of the Hydro region, along with units such as Wriothesley and Sigewinne.

Being the Champion Duelist means Clorinde has a lot of expectations to fulfill. Sadly, after the release of Neuvillette as a top-tier DPS and Furina as a top-tier support, it's difficult for Clorinde to exceed or even be on par with the ruler/ex-ruler of Fontaine. Nevertheless, the Champion Duelist still has her uses, especially if Travelers use her correctly and avoid the following mistakes players make when using Clorinde in Genshin Impact.

Some may think Alhaitham is quite easy to read despite his mysterious personality, but there is more to this scholar's design than meets the eye.

6 Leveling Up Her Basic Attack

Most of Clorinde’s DPS originates from her Normal Attack, but the multiplier for this ability comes from her Elemental Skill. Therefore, Clorinde’s Basic Attack can be left at level 1, while her Elemental Skill must be maximized. This is great news since players can farm less Talent level-up materials and save their Resin.

Leveling up Clorinde’s Elemental Skill also enhances her other features like Impale the Night hit and her Ousia Arkhe in Genshin Impact. In summary, Clorinde’s level-up priority is Elemental Skill > Elemental Burst.

5 Not Knowing How Bond Of Life Works

Bond of Life is a mechanic in Genshin Impact that was introduced when Fontaine was released in version 4.0. However, it didn’t become important until Arlecchino’s debut on 4.6. To put it simply, here’s how Bond of Life works:

  • A character with a Bond of Life can’t be healed until the Bond of Life is cleared.
  • Generally, Bond of Life will be removed when a character is healed, at a 1:1 rate.
  • Bond of Life has a maximum value of 200% of the character’s max HP, indicated by red lines around the HP bar, on a 1:2 scale. This means a fully-red HP bar equals 200% Bond of Life, whereas a half-full red bar equals 100% Bond of Life.

4 Not Knowing Her Elemental Skill Mechanics

Clorinde has a rather complicated Elemental Skill mechanic that may cause players to get a headache when reading her Skill description. Fortunately, it's actually quite simple:

  • Clorinde enters a Night Vigil state when she uses Elemental Skill. The state ends when she leaves the field.
  • Healing received from outside sources will be converted into Bond of Life at an 80% rate.
  • Clorinde uses a pistol in Night Vigil state, and her hits are converted into Electro (can't be overridden).
  • Clorinde can't use Charged Attack, but can still use Elemental Skill to release Impale the Night slash.
  • If she has 100% or more Bond of Life: Night Vigil performs a normal pistol shot (Normal Attack).
  • If she has less than 100% Bond of Life: Her pistol grants Bond of Life worth 35% of Clorinde's HP. The shot will also pierce the opponent and DMG dealt is increased.
  • If she has 0% Bond of Life: Impale the Night deals a normal lunging strike.
  • If she has less than 100% Bond of Life: Impale the Night clears Bond of Life and heals Clorinde based on the Bond of Life value. The AoE and DMG of the lunge are increased.
  • If she has more than 100% Bond of Life: Impale the Night heals more, has a larger AoE, and deal even more DMG.

Basically, Clorinde's Normal Attacks deal more damage when she has less than 100% Bond of Life, whereas her Impale the Night (press Elemental Skill while Night Vigil is active) deals more damage when she has more than 100% Bond of Life.

This allows players to abuse the mechanic by using Clorinde's Normal Attack until she has 100% Bond of Life (half of her HP bar will be red), then use her Elemental Skill to activate the fully-enhanced Impale the Night and clear her Bond of Life.

Not only does this strategy yield optimal damage from the Champion Duelist, but it also activates crazy synergies with characters like Furina in Genshin Impact.

3 Neglecting Clorinde’s Mobility

Clorinde's Impale the Night ability gives her massive mobility, especially since it can be triggered so easily. For this, it helps to have sources that increase her resistance to interruption, like a shield in Genshin Impact.

Alhaitham is a Dendro DPS that has a lot of things Genshin Impact players should keep in mind.

Being a highly mobile character comes with its cons, too. For instance, even though Bennett can greatly buff Clorinde's ATK, they don't pair well since Clorinde will be limited to Bennett's circle.

2 Not Utilizing Her Elemental Burst

Clorinde’s Elemental Burst not only comes with large multipliers that can potentially one-shot both big and small enemies but it also instantly grants Bond of Life to Clorinde. At level one, the Bond of Life application sits at 66% of Clorinde’s max HP, but at level eight, it boosts to 108% of Clorinde’s max HP, allowing her to immediately use the fully enhanced Impale the Night.

This increase in Bond of Life gain is the primary reason why players should level up the Champion Duelist’s Elemental Burst level.

Clorinde's first Ascension passive (A1) increases the Electro DMG dealt by her Normal Attack and Elemental Burst after a nearby party member triggers an Electro-related reaction against an opponent for 15s. This means that while she doesn't demand constant Electro reaction, she still needs occasional Electro-related reactions to maximize her DPS.

Considering Clorinde is an excellent Electro driver, it makes it clear that her role should revolve around Electro reactions in Genshin Impact.
