A Genshin Impact leak has revealed important information about the release date of one of the game's legendary creatures, the shadow dragon Durin. Since Natlan was released in Genshin Impact Version 5.0, every update has featured at least one new five-star character.
The ongoing update, Version 5.6, has introduced two new playable units: the famous Fontaine chef Escoffier and Natlan's Saurian veterinarian Ifa. Both are featured on the same banner cycle, meaning that players can only spend their Primogems on one limited banner to try and obtain them. Even though they arrived just a few days ago, Genshin Impact has already announced two roster additions for Version 5.7.
Genshin Impact Giving Away More Free Primogems for May 2025
Genshin Impact announces a new web event that allows players to get Primogems for free by following a couple of simple steps.
Over the last couple of years, Genshin Impact has followed a pattern of adding 17 characters per major update. Since Version 5.7 will introduce two new playable units, bringing the total count to 16, players can expect one more new character in 5.8, as it will likely be the final patch before the next major update. In recent weeks, players have speculated about who this character might be, with many suggesting it could be the legendary dragon Durin. One of Genshin Impact’s recent cutscenes revealed a human form of a young Durin. However, a credible leaker known as hxg_diluc has stated that Durin will unfortunately not be playable in Version 5.8. Back in December 2024, the same leaker also claimed that HoYoverse would not release any new five-star male characters in Genshin Impact during the Natlan arc, a prediction that has proven accurate so far.
Genshin Impact: Durin Release Date Expectations
During Genshin Impact’s cataclysm, Durin invaded Mondstadt and was defeated by Dvalin, the famous Anemo dragon. The remains of his corpse fell onto the Vindagnyr mountain, which is why it became known as Dragonspine. In his dragon form, Durin is depicted as a black skeletal dragon with glowing red eyes. In terms of size, Durin is significantly larger than Dvalin, who is currently considered one of the largest dragons in Genshin Impact.
The shadow dragon was created by Rhinedottir in the lost civilization of Khaenri'ah and serves as a catalyst for many storylines that Travelers encounter, especially in the earlier stages of the game. While he is unlikely to appear in Version 5.8, recent leaks suggest that the first Nod-Krai updates will feature some of the most powerful characters in Genshin Impact.
Another legendary character expected to arrive in the foreseeable future is Varka, the Grandmaster of the Knights of Favonius. While Varka’s appearance remains a mystery, players had the opportunity to hear his voice for the first time in one of the recent Genshin Impact trailers.
