Chiori is a strong Sub-DPS in Genshin Impact with a kit that mostly revolves around DMG. She doesn’t buff any other unit nor is able to benefit them other than offering her team a good off-field Geo application. Not only that, but Chiori also suffers from some strong limitations that force her playstyle to be specific in order to increase her effectiveness during combat.
Genshin Impact: Chronicled Wish Guide
Chronicled Wish banner in Genshin Impact allows players to choose between certain characters and weapons, and they can even lose to a limited 5-star.
The limitations don’t only limit the characters that can join Chiori team comps, but they also dictate what kind they should be. For example, it is necessary to have another Geo with Chiori to activate the Geo Resonance in Genshin Impact. However, Chiori’s mechanics specify it should be a Geo that can build Geo constructs. To avoid falling for any of these mistakes, here’s a list of the most common Chiori mistakes in Genshin Impact.
6 Focusing On Normal ATK DPS
When Chiori casts her Elemental Skill, she gets a choice of switching to another character or continuing dealing DMG with her infused Normal attacks. Choosing to infuse her attacks sparks numerous flaws in her mechanics and playstyle, since she heavily relies on her DEF stats to deal her off-field DMG while her Normal attacks solely scale with her ATK%.
In conclusion, it’s a big mistake to focus on infusing her Normal attacks with Geo and put more stats into her ATK% instead of DEF% because it will hurt her overall DMG. Not to mention, she gets her Geo infusion from her Elemental Skill with 17 seconds of Cooldown, while her infusion only lasts for 5 seconds, leaving her completely useless as a main DPS for the majority of her field time.
5 Building Her With ATK
Since Chiori scales with both ATK% and DEF%, it may cause a little confusion as to which stat she prefers more. While she has a decent Base ATK, she has one of the best Base DEF in Genshin Impact, making her prefer DEF% items more. Additionally, the DEF% scaling on her Elemental Skill and Burst is better than her ATK% scaling. All this makes DEF% a preferable approach when building her.
Genshin Impact: Best Team Compositions For Yae Miko
While not as flexible as Raiden Shogun, Yae Miko can still fit in these team compositions in Genshin Impact.
The only time players want to build Chiori with ATK is if they want her to be the Main DPS. Sadly, Chiori can only properly shine as the Main DPS when she gets her C6, after which DEF is still the better option than ATK, since her final Constellation grants her extra damage on her Normal attacks, based on her DEF.
4 Not Switching Characters Through Her Passive
After Chiori uses her Elemental Skill, she can activate her passive, which greatly increases her DMG. You can activate the passive by using her Skill twice, which immediately switches your active character to the unit after Chiori. This will allow her Tamoto Dolls to follow the next two Normal Attacks, Charged Attacks, or Plunging Attacks with two strong strikes.
Switching normally instead of pressing her Skill twice will not trigger that passive and will hurt Chiori’s overall DMG. It can be confusing and tough to remember to switch through her passive and not normally, so practicing her playstyle is recommended for Chiori’s new havers.
3 Placing Characters Randomly
Chiori’s limitations start when building her team in Genshin Impact. Randomly placing the characters in her party will result in clunky team rotations since she’s forced to switch herself out with the next character in the party after using her Elemental Skill. So, whether you should have a Support, Sub-DPS, or a Main DPS after her, it’s recommended to place them right after Chiori when building her team composition in Genshin Impact.
It’s better to start the rotation with Chiori to get her Tamoto Dolls out and avoid losing time on their DMG. It also helps other characters that rely on Chiori’s off-field application to trigger Crystallize reactions in Genshin Impact.
2 Mismanaging Her Second Tamoto
Usually, Geo units in Genshin Impact perform better together because of their Geo Resonance since it notably increases their DMG while decreasing enemies’ resistance to Geo. Chiori goes a step further by demanding a Geo unit that can have a Geo construct on the field during combat.
Genshin Impact: Ningguang Constellation Guide
Ningguang's Constellations in Genshin Impact can put her on par with a 5-star unit, as long as players utilize them well.
There are mainly two benefits for Chiori to have that kind of character in her team. First, when they create a Geo construct, it activates Chiori’s A4 passive, which increases her Geo DMG by 20%. Other than that, it allows Chiori to summon a second Tamoto Doll on the field to deal more DMG. Summoning the Tamoto Doll doesn’t have to be after placing the Geo construct, as it'll still appear if you summon the construct after bringing the Tamoto Doll out. Additionally, even if the Geo construct is destroyed upon creation, a second Tamoto Doll will still appear. It may be beneficial to cast Chiori’s Elemental Skill first before creating the Geo construct to make the Dolls have a different position and attack timer.
1 Using Her Skill Before Her Ult
A common mistake when using Chiori is using her Elemental Skill before unleashing her Elemental Burst in Genshin Impact, or worse, using Chiori's Burst right after casting her Skill, in which she'll miss out on the extra damage from her A1 passive.
Chiori must be switched out by using her Skill again after casting her Elemental Skill. This means if you didn't use her Burst before summoning the Tamoto Doll, you'll have to switch back to her to cast her Ultimate. Of course, at the end of the day, this is fine if it fits the players' rotation, but it's easier to just Burst before using her Skill and switching her out, compared to having her work twice in a single rotation.
