When game developer miHoYo announced its action RPG Genshin Impact, the company shared that it would be playable across multiple platforms upon launch. Interested players were likely elated at this news, as they would be able to adventure through the different regions of Teyvat with friends despite having different devices. However, given just how fast-paced the gameplay can be, there are certain minimum technical requirements needed to ensure a smooth experience for mobile device users. One fan of the game shared their experience of playing Genshin Impact on a cheaper mobile device, stunting the performance and visuals of the normally good-looking video game.
Since its launch last September 2020, Genshin Impact has been able to keep its player base active and dedicated for close to two years now. This achievement can be attributed to the developers' constant content updates, releases of new playable Genshin Impact characters, and new areas that players can explore. What's more, allowing players to log in on different platforms without losing progress likely added to the success and popularity of the action RPG.
Likely as an experiment to show how Genshin Impact would perform on a less powerful mobile device, Reddit user Manh47DEV recorded and posted a short video of them playing the game. The footage shows the player using their standard Genshin Impact glider and performing some basic attacks in an area outside of Mondstadt. The video showcases very low-resolution visuals, with extreme stuttering between frames. The low FPS becomes very noticeable when doing complicated actions such as using the glider or attacking, but even simple actions such as running and jumping are not exempt from the low quality performance.
Unfortunately, the Redditor did not indicate what exact mobile device they used to record their Genshin Impact gameplay footage. One reply on the thread pointed out that the mobile device used was not low-end enough, given that the original poster was still able to screen record their entire experience. Others were just amazed that Manh47DEV was still able to play and download the video game, while others went into discussions about whether Genshin Impact would show up on their Android Play Store if their mobile was not powerful enough.
Even though Genshin Impact is playable on mobile devices, the sheer resources needed to ensure the best gameplay experience are quite high. However, Reddit user Manh47DEV does prove a point that when players truly love a video game, they will find ways to play it, despite how unfortunate-looking the experience can be.
Genshin Impact is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is currently in development.
