Summary
- Mondstadt in Genshin Impact has had a character drought since Version 1.5.
- However, the region still has 19 characters.
- Dahlia is set to debut in Spring 2025 and will expand the the Mondstadt cast.
A recent Genshin Impact chart has highlighted the massive character drought for Mondstadt since Version 1.5, but there may be a specific reason as to why. When Genshin Impact launched in September 2020, it only had two regions to offer – Mondstadt and Liyue. While the former served its purpose as a prologue to the larger world of Teyvat, the latter has received numerous map expansions and characters over the years.
The idea of a Mondstadt map expansion in Genshin Impact existed as both a theory and a rumor for years but never quite came to fruition. While the developers have teased Varka and Dornman Port across character stories and in-game lore, the lack of any Mondstadt content has caused players to feel like the region was abandoned in favor of newer ones (such as Inazuma). Version 5.4 is certainly an Inazuma patch through and through, adding a new 5-Star character to the playable cast and featuring a Flagship Event centered around the region and its characters.
Genshin Impact's Leaked Charlotte Rerun Should Be the Tip of the Iceberg
Charlotte’s anticipated rerun in Genshin Impact’s 5.4 update will be cause for celebration, though it still doesn’t address the elephants in the room.
A recent chart illustrates this disparity even further, as shared by Trigon05 on the Genshin Impact subreddit. It displays the last three characters added to every region since the game's launch. In Inazuma's case, they are Kirara (Version 3.7), Chiori (Version 4.5), and Mizuki (Version 5.4). In Mondstadt's case, they are Rosaria (Version 1.4), Eula (Version 1.5), and Mika (Version 3.5). For a very specific reason, the developers have avoided creating new Mondstadt characters in Genshin Impact, and one could even argue that they are justified in their restraint.

With 19 playable characters, Mondstadt certainly has a lot to offer – Jean, Bennett, Fischl, and Sucrose remain valuable party members even in 2025. In fact, only Liyue has more characters than Mondstadt, and this advantage largely stems from the Lantern Rite adding at least one Liyue character every year. By contrast, Sumeru and Fontaine are lagging behind Mondstadt, and Natlan in Genshin Impact has only just begun to shape its regional roster. While this explains why the developers were hesitant to introduce a new Mondstadt character, this will likely change in the near future.
According to the list of upcoming characters in Genshin Impact, Dahlia is set to make a playable debut by the end of Spring 2025. As the Deacon of the Church of Favonius, he should be a welcome addition to the Mondstadt cast. After all, Mondstadt is due to receive a 5-Star character. Unfortunately, both Ifa and Dahlia are expected to be 4-Star characters, as Genshin Impact isn't expected to introduce any male 5-Stars until at least Version 6.0. Needless to say, the coming months should be interesting to most Genshin Impact fans, and while Dahlia won't make an appearance in Version 5.5, the upcoming update has garnered plenty of excitement during its beta. Version 5.5 is set to launch on March 26, 2025.
