Likewise, the Fatui Harbingers have served as the main villains of Genshin Impact for nearly as long. If recent leaks are to be believed, then both of these foundational dynamics could be flipped on their head in the very near future.

Capitano Could Die in Genshin Impact 5.3
Recent leaks suggest that Capitano could die during the Natlan story arc, specifically during the upcoming 5.3 update. However, it is important to note that this speculation is not only based on a leak, but on assumptions some fans have made after the fact. As such, the following information should be taken with a very hefty grain of salt.
Discussion began thanks to a music file shared via Miruko, which was seemingly labeled "Cinder City Capitano Tombstone." If the title is meant to be taken literally, it could be music that plays over Capitano's grave, which would of course hint at his untimely death. If Capitano meets his demise after all, it would also serve as a justification for the prevailing rumor that he will not become playable.
Capitano Would Not Be the First Fatui Harbinger to Die in Genshin Impact
In fact, the possibility of Capitano's death should be familiar to longtime fans of Genshin Impact. After all, La Signora was killed off quite a long time ago now. This event was almost unthinkable at the time, and rightfully sent shock waves through the fandom that can be felt to this day.
La Signora was cut down by Raiden Shogun at the tail end of the Inazuma story arc. Many players hoped La Signora would eventually become playable, and were ultimately disappointed by her seemingly irreversible death. Furthermore, La Signora's position among the Fatui Harbingers was left vacant, and the consequences of her death were immediately apparent in the following story arc.
Genshin Impact finally revealed the remaining members of the Fatui Harbingers in-game shortly after La Signora's death, and each member has taken on a much bigger role in the game's story ever since. La Signora remains the only Fatui Harbinger to be fully killed off. If her death serves as any real precedence, one can assume Capitano's death would be irreversible as well, and that the effect on his comrades would be both strong and swift.
Genshin Impact's Snezhnaya Story Could Be Uprooted
Genshin Impact is rapidly approaching its final stages, and will undoubtedly end up in Snezhnaya sooner or later. Snezhnaya is the last nation that players have yet to explore, and it also happens to be the homeland of the Fatui Harbingers. The Fatui Harbingers will likely become more prominent than ever during the Snezhnaya story arc, and if Capitano dies before then, it would be a rather interesting turn for the story to take.
Capitano's death is far from assured yet, given the nature of the leak that has suggested it. If Capitano is killed off, it will undoubtedly create a strong tension among the other Fatui Harbingers, and potentially spark a vendetta against whoever did the deed. Such a major character death would definitely be a big swerve, especially when Genshin Impact seems so close to its climax.
