The introduction of Fontaine in the 4.0 version of Genshin Impact was a significant expansion, bringing a new region to explore, new characters to meet, and an exciting addition to the game's world. However, the journey doesn't stop there. Starting with the 4.1 update, players can expect even more content and features to enhance their experience in the Fontaine region and beyond.
The 4.1 update, "To the Stars Shining in the Depths" for Genshin Impact may not be as massive as the 4.0 update, but it still promises a lot of exciting new content for players to enjoy. With the introduction of new characters, highly anticipated reruns, fresh story quests, and more, there's plenty to look forward to. This update also marks the third year anniversary of Genshin Impact. Here's an overview of what's been showcased during the 1 hour long 4.1 livestream for players to get excited about.
New Characters
The 4.1 update of Genshin Impact brings two new playable characters into the roster: Neuvillette and Wriothesley. Players may already be familiar with Neuvillette from their appearance during the Archon quest in the Fontaine region. On the other hand, Wriothesley was briefly showcased in the Fontaine teaser trailer. Both of these characters are Catalyst users, with Neuvillette harnessing the power of Hydro, while Wriothesley wields a Cryo vision.
Wish Banner: Neuvilette + Hu Tao, And Wriothesley + Venti
In the first phase of the character-wish event, Neuvilette is featured alongside Hu Tao's rerun, who is one of the most popular Pyro characters in Genshin Impact. Additionally, their signature weapons will be featured together in the weapon-wish banner, making it a highly attractive banner for players to pull on.
The second phase banner features Wriothesley and the long-awaited rerun of the Anemo Archon Venti. As there are no new playable 4-star characters introduced in this version update, players can expect a mix of already existing 4-star rate-up characters for both phases of the banner.
New Weapons
There are in total 7 new weapons introduced with 4.1 version update:
- Tome of the Eternal Flow: Neuvillette's signature 5-star catalyst, alongside his character-wish banner duration
- Cashflow Supervision: Wriothesley's signature 5-star catalyst, alongside his character-wish banner duration

New 4-star weapons have been introduced, aligning with the aesthetic of the Fontaine region. This follows the pattern of the Gacha weapon series introduced in the 3.1 and 2.1 updates of Genshin Impact:
- Portable Power Saw (Claymore)
- The Dockhand's Assistant (Sword)
- Prospector's Drill (Polearm)
- Range Gauge (Bow)
- Ballad of the Boundless Blue, a 4-star Catalyst, obtainable during the main event of the 4.1 version update.
New Areas
The Fontaine region is expanding its map by introducing new environments where players can gather boss ascension materials and local specialties for both Neuvillette and Wriothesley. This new region also features an underwater exploration mechanic, similar to the other regions in Fontaine that players have encountered so far.
New Quests
Players will be introduced to story quests for both Neuvillette and Wriothesley, as well as will be able to continue the next part of the Archon stories' namely Act 3 and Act 4.
New Bosses
The Version 4.1 update introduces two new bosses, with the first one being the Millennial Pearl Seahorse. This enemy drops boss ascension materials for Neuvillette.
The other boss introduced in the Version 4.1 update is the Experimental Field Generator. Players will need to farm this boss in order to obtain Wriothesley's ascension materials.
There are also new elite Fatui enemies players will come across while exploring the new areas.
New Event
The main new event in version 4.1 update is the Waterborne Poetry event, where players will be playing 3 different kinds of mini-games to obtain rewards.
By participating in this event, players will be able to obtain the weapon "Ballad of the Boundless Blue" and additional materials to be able to max refine it. Additionally, they can earn various other rewards such as Primogems, talent ascension materials, Mora, and more.

- Radiant Harvest
- The Peaks and Troughs of Life
- Overflowing Mastery
Genshin Impact Anniversary
As a part of the Genshin Impact's 3rd anniversary, players will be able to claim in-game login rewards, which give 10x Intertwined Fate among other resources. Additionally, the developer team will be sending in-game mails through this time period to grant players 1600, and other items such as an Octopus Pet and a tool that allows players to shoot bubbles.
Lastly, the First Time Purchase Bonus for Genesis Crystal top-up will be reset as the 4.1 patch launches.
New TCG Cards: Dehya, Wanderer and Yaoyao
Genius Invokation TCG continues to expand with new character and action cards, including the addition of playable character cards, namely Dehya, Wanderer and Yaoyao. These new cards allow fans of this mini-game mode to explore fresh synergies and experiment with new strategies.
New System Optimization Updates
With the version 4.1 Update, players are introduced to two changes, with first one being related to making the Ascension Domains quicker for new players, while the other one being related to daily gameplay of Genshin Impact. With the beginning of the patch, players will be able to obtain Encounter Points alongside commissions to make their daily gameplay a bit more versatile with allowing players to only focus on daily commissions they want, while they can also receive each reward by completing missions for Encounter Quests instead, similar to Honkai: Star Rail.
