The Ultimate and PC tiers of Xbox Game Pass have officially added Gears of War: Reloaded as a day one release. The new game is a remaster of the original Gears of War, released in 2006, known as one of the most influential third-person shooters of the 2000s.
Kicking off almost 20 years ago, Gears of War has been one of Xbox’s most iconic franchises. The original trilogy was released between 2006 and 2011 for Xbox 360, and it followed the protagonist Marcus Fenix, a soldier of the Coalition of Ordered Governments, as the army tried to face a reptilian menace called the Locus Horde to save humanity.

Gears of War: Reloaded Is the Latest Day One Release on Xbox Game Pass
With Gears of War: Reloaded available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC, subscribers will have the chance to replay the popular third-person shooter or try it for the first time. Gears of War: Reloaded is not the first time The Coalition has remastered the original game in the series, though, as Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, which is also available on Xbox Game Pass, did the same in 2015. Reloaded is an updated port of the Ultimate Edition, and it offers 4K resolution, 60 frames per second for the campaign, and 120 FPS for multiplayer. It comes with High Dynamic Range (HDR) and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) displays, making it the best way to enjoy the classic on modern platforms.
August has been a good month for Microsoft's popular service. Earlier this month, Xbox Game Pass added new titles such as Blacksmith Master (game preview), Void/Breaker, Persona 4 Golden, Herdling, and others to the popular subscription service. Before the end of the month, subscribers will gain access to Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which will be available as part of EA Play for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC subscribers.
The release of Gears of War: Reloaded is just an appetizer for fans of the franchise, though, as a new mainline entry in the series will be released in 2026. Originally revealed in 2024, Gears of War: E-Day will act as a prequel to the original trilogy, as it’s set 14 years before the events of the first game. The story will bring back Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago as they try to survive an event called Emergence Day, when they must face the Locus Horde once more. The title will be set in a city called Kalona, which has not appeared in the franchise previously, and is being eagerly anticipated by fans.
