Ninja Five-O is now available on PC and select consoles. The Game Boy Advance classic reached modern platforms just ahead of its 22nd anniversary.

Ninja Five-O, known as Ninja Cop in Europe, is an action platformer made by the now-defunct Bomberman franchise developer Hudson Soft. It was released on the GBA in April 2003 to widespread critical acclaim. Reviewers at the time praised Ninja Five-O's challenging combat, responsive controls, non-linear level design, and fluid animations, among other qualities. In spite of this positive buzz from critics, the game failed to generate early commercial momentum, with its weak sales prompting publisher Konami to stop producing Ninja Five-O cartridges before long.

Fans of challenging strategy games on Nintendo's beloved GBA have plenty to choose from.

A Ninja Five-O remaster has now materialized, reaching PC and consoles on February 25—less than two months ahead of its 22nd anniversary. The revised edition of the former GBA exclusive is available on the PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC (via Steam). All versions of the game are priced at $24.99.

Ninja Five-O Remaster Comes With 3 New Features

Limited Run Games' Ninja Five-O remaster introduces three major features, including a Time Trial mode for replaying any stage that has already been cleared. A modern save system is also part of the package, allowing players to create and load saves at any point during the game. The final addition is the ability to rewind time, up to a few seconds, in order to get past any particularly challenging part of the game more easily. All of these novelties were designed to improve the Ninja Five-O remaster's accessibility, consequently bringing it more in line with modern sensibilities.

Where To Buy Ninja Five-O Remaster

By the time the original game amassed a cult following, Konami had long discontinued its production due to weak sales. The rising demand for the action platformer, combined with its limited supply, eventually turned Ninja Five-O into one of the most sought-after GBA games, with its copies regularly changing hands for hundreds of dollars on eBay. The remaster’s arrival won’t necessarily devalue the original, which remains as rare as ever, but it could still indirectly affect the second-hand market now that Ninja Five-O is available on modern platforms.

Limited Run Games has also offered physical copies of its Ninja Five-O remaster for the PS4, PS5, Switch, and even PC (distributed via a USB stick). However, true to its name and long-standing practices, the company used a pre-order-based approach to determine its production run, which is currently underway. Anyone who pre-ordered a physical version of Ninja Five-O by August 2024 can expect their game to arrive in April 2025.
