Hurricane Helene made landfall on the evening of September 26 in the Big Bend region of Florida, with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph. Helene dissipated three days later, on September 29. As a Category 4 major hurricane and the second major hurricane of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, Helene's impact spread across Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina, and parts of Tennessee and Virginia. Even after its immediate landfall, Helene caused widespread property damage, including power and Internet outages across the southeastern US. At the time of writing, over 200 deaths were caused as a result of Helene's path of destruction.

According to Direct Relief, the organization's response to Hurricane Helene is focused on bringing emergency medical supplies, personal hygiene kits, and transportation to those in need.
