The big gaming event season has kicked off, with Summer Game Fest starting the forthcoming wave of new game announcements. That'll likely mean updates on some of the biggest games out there, and also some entirely new games for the industry to fawn over. It's certainly an exciting time to be invested in the industry, and that gives Cameron and Anthony plenty to talk about.
First off, EA revealed Battlefield 2042, the next entry in the coveted FPS franchise. While gameplay won't be shown until Saturday, fans now have an idea of what the game will hold, with EA upping the player count to 128 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. The near-future setting is a drastic departure from the previous two entries in the franchise, but that might be just what the doctor ordered.
Kicking off the Summer Game Fest announcements was Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, a spinoff of the Borderlands franchise. The game will incorporate a number of new elements, an all-star cast, and lean more heavily into fantasy stylings. It's an interesting direction to take a spinoff in, and one that will hopefully bring some changes to the Borderlands formula.
Finally, after years of waiting, Elden Ring's release date was officially announced, set to launch on January 21, 2022. There was also a bit of gameplay shown off, offering a respite to those that have been anxiously awaiting updates on the game. The game still looks a lot like Dark Souls, though, and it doesn't seem as visually appealing as PS5's Demon's Souls remake.
