Summary
- StarCraft comes to Game Pass on November 5.
- StarCraft: Remastered and Campaign Collection offer 10 campaigns for a full story experience on Game Pass.
StarCraft is coming to Game Pass on November 5, 2024, as both Remastered and Campaign Collection will be available to anyone with a PC Game Pass or Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard in 2023, Microsoft gained access to valuable franchises such as StarCraft, and it didn't take long for Blizzard titles to make their way to Microsoft's Game Pass service. Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 were both added to Game Pass in 2024, with the latter allowing players to unlock free cosmetics by linking their Xbox and Battle.net accounts.
Notably, the free skins for Overwatch 2 can be accessed on all platforms, and even come with an experience boost, provided players link their Battle.net and Xbox accounts by November 11, 2024. With two Blizzard franchises now a part of Game Pass, it was only a matter of time until StarCraft joined the subscription service. While real-time strategy may no longer be considered a mainstream genre, both StarCraft titles were massively popular during their time, and left behind an impressive legacy of e-sports and innovation.
Ex-Blizzard Boss Believes Consoles Will 'Never Die'
Former Blizzard president Mike Ybarra provides his two cents on the future of game consoles, making a sly dig at Xbox in the process.
While the multiplayer component of both games can be played for free, StarCraft: Remastered and StarCraft 2: Campaign Collection will let players experience the full story of the Koprulu Sector across a grand total of ten campaigns. The announcement was made during the Tokyo Game Show 2024 broadcast, and revealed that both Blizzard titles would become available through PC Game Pass or Game Pass Ultimate on November 5, 2024.
What Do Starcraft: Remastered and StarCraft 2: Campaign Collection Offer?
Released in 2017, StarCraft: Remastered comes with all six campaigns from both the original game and Brood War, beautifully remade with modern textures and updated cinematics. On the other hand, StarCraft 2: Campaign Collection gives players access to Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm, Legacy of the Void, and the Nova Covert Ops mission pack. For players who enjoy real-time strategy games, Game Pass will offer hundreds of hours of quality content from a beloved Blizzard franchise. However, it should be noted that the games are only available on PC as a platform, and as such, are not available on the console version of Xbox Game Pass.
With StarCraft added to Microsoft's subscription service, one can't help but wonder how long it will be until World of Warcraft joins Game Pass as well. Throughout its nearly two-decade history, World of Warcraft has maintained millions of subscribers, and continues to be a successful title for Blizzard Entertainment. However, with Microsoft's focus on Game Pass and expanding its audience, it may not be a surprise if the world of Azeroth opened its doors to Game Pass subscribers in the near future as well.
